1100 Hours – 1200 Hours: Enter through Nyatoto Gate and complete park registration
1200 Hours – 1300 Hours: Short en-route game drive toward the lodge for check-in
1300 Hours – 1430 Hours: Lunch at Ruma River Lodge or similar, followed by relaxation.
1500 Hours – 1630 Hours: Afternoon game drive in the Lambwe Valley to spot rare roan antelopes, leopards, giraffes, and birds like the Blue Swallow.
1700 Hours: Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay

0600 Hours – 0630 Hours: Wake up and have a cup of tea/coffee

Day 1: Kisumu – Drive to Ruma National Park

After an early breakfast, depart Kisumu by road, passing through Kendu Bay and Homa Bay to Ruma National Park. Approximately 2.5 to 3 hours (138 km) from Kisumu to the park’s Nyatoto Gate

After arriving at Nyatoto gate, we check into the park and proceed on a game drive en route to our accommodation for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on an extensive game drive. Ruma National Park lies in Western Kenya, close to the shores of Africa’s largest inland Lake, Lake Victoria.

The park is considered the last retreat and sanctuary for the endangered and threatened Roan antelope, one of Africa’s rarest Antelopes.

Apart from the Roan antelope, the park has buffalo, waterbuck, aardvark, honey badger, civet, serval, genet, topi, impala, monkey, baboon, leopard, and hyena.

Return to your accommodation in the evening for Dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Ruma National Park – Visit Rusinga Island – Drive to Kisumu

An early-morning game drive is planned for this day, followed by breakfast back at the lodge. We check out of our accommodations and depart with packed lunch boxes for a tour of Rusinga Island. Rusinga is a pretty island.

We visit Tom Mboya’s mausoleum. Tom Mboya was a civil rights champion, trade unionist, and charismatic young Luo politician who was gunned down in Nairobi in 1969, sparking off a crisis that led to over forty deaths in widespread rioting and demonstrations.

We eat a packed lunch at a convenient place on the Island, and then drive to catch the 1500 Hours Ferry to Lwanda K’Otieno.

Along the way, we visit the Akala market, famous for cattle sales across the Nyanza region, to learn after interacting with both sellers and buyers.

We arrive in Kisumu in the evening.
