Saadani National Park Day Trip Dar es Salaam Safari is a wildlife day excursion to Saadani – the closest reserve to Dar es Salaam (302 km’s away). This day tour offers an irresistible combination of beach and wildlife viewing.
Saadani National Park is located almost directly opposite Zanzibar Stone Town (42 km’s away). Flights from Zanzibar to Saadani take just 15 minutes.
Saadani National Park is truly unique because it’s right on the Indian Ocean. The beautiful white sand beaches are stunning but you’re more likely to see lions or elephant on the beach than sunbathers.
A wide range of grazing animals are commonly seen on game drives and walks through Saadani National Park. These include giraffe, buffalo, warthog, waterbuck, reedbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest, greater kudu, eland, sable, baboon, monkey and elephant amongst others.
Saadani National Park Day Trip Dar es Salaam Safari Itinerary
0500 Hours: After breakfast at your Dar es salaam hotel/ residence, our professional safari driver guide will pick you up and drive north to Saadani National Park via Bagamoyo. The park is located approximately 4-5 hours away.
Along the way you will many Swahili villages, historical ruins, Bagamoyo town, the Wami River as well as the Zaraninge Forest.
0930 Hours: We arrival at Saadani National Park for game drive. Resident animals include giraffe, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, sable antelope, eland, hartebeest, wildebeest, zebra, waterbuck and reedbuck.
Other animals that you are likely to see include greater kudu, warthog, hyena, mongoose, civet, serval, caracal, baboon, black and white colobus, crocodile, hippo, three species of duiker as well as a great variety of birdlife.
There’s a good chance of spotting hippo, crocodile and a selection of marine and riverine birds, including the mangrove kingfisher and lesser flamingo along the Wami River. The beach here is one of the last major green turtle breeding sites on mainland Tanzania.
1300 Hours: We enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach with its white sand and sparkling clear water.
1400 Hours: After lunch proceed for the afternoon game drive or choose to take a boat tour in the Wami River which drains into the Indian Ocean. Its waters and swamplands are home to a large population of hippo, crocodile and water birds.
You can also take a guided walking tour, bird watching tour or choose to Sun bath on the Saadani beach or visit the Saadani fishing village where you get to interact with the locals.
1500 Hours: Later we depart the park and drive back to Dar es Salaam.
1930 Hours: Arrive in Dar-es-salaam and drop you at your hotel/ residence.

* On the beach you get to enjoy even more special sightings: breeding green turtles – Saadani’s beaches are one of Tanzania’s best breeding sites – with dolphins and humpback whales putting on their show in the Indian Ocean beyond.
* The vast grassy area is named ‘Serengeti Ndogo’ (Small Serengeti) and lives up to the expectations. Taking a boat on the Wami River will definitely add to the fun; here you are as close as one likes to get to hippo, crocodile and flamingo.
* Bird watchers will also be treated to not-often-seen migratory birds that love the shore, such as different kinds of sandpiper, Eurasian oystercatcher and the common greenshank.
