Named the ‘plains’ in Swahili, Sanctuary Tambarare Camp is a 5-star luxury accommodation in the privately-owned wildlife reserve of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, located between the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent, snow-capped Mount Kenya.

Sanctuary Tambarare Camp is situated on the plains of the Laikipia Plateau, near Nanyuki town in the Laikipia District of Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy lies 17 km from Nanyuki and 217 kilometers north of Nairobi. Road transfers from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy take about 4 to 5 hours.

Flight from Nairobi Wilson Airport landed in Nanyuki Airstrip followed by a 1-hour (approximately) road transfer to camp. This five-star luxury camp caters to just twenty guests in 10 luxurious guest tents ensuring personal attention and exclusivity and is perfect for families and larger groups.

Sanctuary Tambarare Camp  has 10 luxurious tents have open-fronted lounges, spacious bathrooms, and private sundecks that look out across the grassy plateau of the award-winning Ol Pejeta Conservancy, 90,000 acres of the unspoiled African landscape, where the Big Five roam, including the last two northern white rhinos on earth.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home not only to the big five animals of Africa but hosts more than 10,000 large mammals and features an endangered species boma, home to rhino species, Grevy’s zebra, and Jackson’s hartebeest.

About 300 elephants – the Conservancy features wildlife corridors within its boundaries to enable movement between Ol Pejeta and the greater Laikipia/ Samburu ecosystem. Large predators about 67 lions, 30 cheetahs, 20 leopards, and 60 spotted hyenas, as well as a pack of African wild dogs.

Smaller predators include the black-backed jackal, serval, caracal, and bat-eared fox. There is a hippo, giraffe, baboon, monkey, aardvark, and ostrich. Antelopes include Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, impala, Beisa oryx, waterbuck, eland, and a range of more than 300 resident and migratory species of birds.

At Sanctuary Tambarare, guests can explore Ol Pejeta Conservancy on day and night game drives and enjoy activities such as guided bush walks, lion tracking, bird walks, visits to the endangered species enclosure, dog tracks, behind-the-scenes chimpanzees, horse riding with rhinos, junior Ranger Club and meet the surrounding communities.
