Sand Rivers Selous Lodge Nyerere National Park Tanzania is a luxurious accommodation situated on the banks of the Rufiji River in the North of Selous Game Reserve. This remarkable riverside lodge brings the outside in with natural light, cooling breezes, and the sights and sounds of the wild.

The lodge can be reached via daily flights to the Kiba airstrip from Dar es Salaam, Ruaha, Zanzibar, and northern Tanzania. Driving from Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park takes about 7 hours. Sand Rivers Lodge Selous is set on a rocky peninsula with magnificent views over a vast sweep of the Rufiji River, its exposed sandbanks are home to hippos, crocodiles, and spectacular birdlife. 

Sand Rivers Selous Lodge Nyerere National Park Tanzania has 8 rooms (5 riverside rooms and 3 suites). The riverside rooms are completely open-fronted, with an expansive veranda set on stilts, giving each a stunning and private view over the river.  Beds are four-postered with soft mosquito netting that ties back during the day. 

The suites have an adjoining lounge, living areas, surrounding decking, Private plunge pools, and en-suite bathrooms. The lodge has electric lights, standing fans, and water heaters that are solar-powered. Free Wi-Fi is also available. En-suite facilities comprise a flush toilet, a washbasin with hot and cold running water, and a walk-in shower.

Sand Rivers Selous has an open-fronted lounge, Communal dining, and private dining with sprawling decks and river views throughout. Even though there are 3 three private plunge pools for the suites there is also one large central pool and a surrounding lounge area to relax in the afternoon.

Guest areas include a charming dining room where guests can tuck into delicious meals, served on an enormous tree that has been converted into a dining table. Breakfasts are served at the lodge or in the pristine bush.

Nyerere National Park is home to several species of wildlife: lions, wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, hippopotamuses, rhinos, antelopes, hyenas, African wolves, and a large number of crocodiles in the Rufiji River. Most notably the park is also known for its prolific population of African Wild Dogs.

Activities available from Sand Rivers Selous include; game drives, fly camping, walking safaris, bush dining, fishing, and boat safaris. The remote location permits game drives, walking safaris, and boating trips on the river, as you encounter lions, buffalo, elephants, and of course the ever-elusive wild dog.

Check-in – Check-out Time

* Rooms will be available from 1300hrs on the day of arrival. Early check-in will be subject to the manager’s discretion on the day of arrival
* Rooms must be vacated by 1000hrs. Clients wishing to keep their rooms for longer will be charged 75% of the room rate in the High Season and 50% in the Low Season

Children’s Rates & Policy

* The minimum age is 5 years to 21 years
* Child park entry and camping/concession fees apply for up to 16 years
* Children aged 12 years and under must share a room or family tent/room with an adult
* Children under 12 years are not permitted to walk, chimp, or fly camp due to safety reasons
* A child occupying a single room will be charged at the full adult rate plus a single supplement

Family Rooms & Triple – Family rooms sleep 2 Adults and 2 Children

*  The camp can accommodate up to two triples in each camp – the third bed in a room is suitable for up to 16 years only and we do not allow 3 adults in a triple
