Serians Kimya Kimya Camp Masai Mara

Serian’s Kimya Kimya is an exclusive-use camp set on a private riverside site in the Mara North Conservancy.  This snug little setup is chock-full of character with grand views over the rushing Mara River and a lively salt lick that regularly features Elephant, Giraffe, and Zebra. Throughout the day, Zebra work their way down to the nearby spring for a mid-morning tipple, often displaced by raucous kids wanting to splash around in the warm water spring.

This is an active river crossing point; the Elephant and Giraffe navigate their way through the maze of granite boulders to the opposite bank.  The Camp can be reached either by road or by air. The distance from Nairobi to Masai Mara is approximately 350 km. It takes around 5-6 hours by road while flying time takes about 45 minutes.  Scheduled flights land at Mara North airstrip, the camp’s preferred airstrip. 

Serian Kimya Kimya is a very cool private camp, with guest accommodation in 3 tented rooms and providing access to a good range of superbly-guided safari activities. Kimya kimya is low-key and tranquil. with all the creature comforts of a bush camp; leather and worn wood, swathes of cotton, cold beers, fireside barbeque, and tinkling ice-laden gnt’s.

Bush breakfasts, picnic lunches, sundowners, and even bush suppers are a specialty. We particularly enjoyed ending our afternoon drive at a wonderfully scenic spot under a lone acacia, with massive views of the setting sun, where virtually the whole camp staff had set up a lovely dinner table and a roaring campfire in the middle of the bush. 

Game viewing is exceptional all year round, but from July to October you will also get to experience the annual wildebeest migration in its hundreds of thousands. The ‘Secret Season’ of January to March is often as rewarding, with clear skies, short grass, and the Loita wildebeest migration coming to Mara North Conservancy. 

Serian’s Kimya Kimya Masai Mara activities include; game drives, walking safaris, Maasai village visits, sundowners, night game drives, bush meals, fishing, and hot air balloon safaris.
