Shompole Wilderness Tented Camp

Shompole Wilderness Tented Camp is hidden away on the fig tree-shaded river banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River within the Shompole conservancy on the bottom of the Great Rift Valley close to the Kenya – Tanzania border. The camp is located in the Shompole group ranch and is a collaboration between the local Maasai community and Shompole Wilderness Ltd.

Shompole Wilderness Camp is set in the same location as what was previously known as Loisiijo Lodge. Lake Magadi borders it to the east, Lake Natron to the south, the Nguruman Escarpment to the west, and Olkiramatian Group Ranch to the north.

Access by air: Charter flights from Nairobi are about 25 minutes to the “Ranger” airstrip, followed by a 25-minute transfer into camp. Access by road: Approximately 4-hour drive from Nairobi (subject to the quality of the road), through Magadi.

Shompole Wilderness Tented Camp has 4 luxury tents overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River. The tents have fans and furnished verandahs and en-suite bathrooms with bucket showers and flush toilets. Each tent has solar lighting.

The camp features a bush kitchen that serves a variety of local and international cuisine. Guests can enjoy their meals in the spacious shady mess tent outdoors. The mess tent and the sitting room overlooks the Uaso Nyiro River and are shaded by huge fig trees lining the river banks.

The style is simple and rustic built with local volcanic stone walls and thatch roofs made by the local Maasai women. Wildlife is abundant in this relatively unknown corner of Kenya, with only Rhino missing from the diverse ecosystem.

A typical game drive, or walk, could yield plenty of plains, including zebra, wildebeest, Grant’s gazelle, giraffe, and cats such as lion, cheetah, or the elusive leopard. Elephants are also available within the area.

Activities in the Shompole Wilderness Tented Camp include; game drives, tubing, village visits, kayaking, and walking with the baboons, and cattle.

Shompole Wilderness Tented Camp Non-Residents Rates Include:

Full Board Accommodation + Airstrip transfers + Laundry, all drinks (excluding Champagne), and all activities (excluding helicopter flights)

Notes:

* Minimum night stay of 2 nights
* Laundry: Laundry service is available upon request
* Child rates apply to children aged 3 – 12 years inclusive
* Infants and young children (aged 0 – 2 years) stay free of charge
* Please note that extra lunches are charged at 30 US Dollars per person
* Exclusive use vehicle: This is charged at 300 US Dollars per vehicle per day
* Showers: These are bucket showers and you can request one at any time of the day
* Check-in and Check-out: Guests can check in from 1100 hours. They need to be out of their rooms by 1000 hours, although they can continue to use the rest of the camp facilities

*  Non-Exclusive Use Bookings are welcome between January 16th to May 31st and October 1st to December 14th
* Exclusive Use Bookings Only between June 1st to September 30th and December 15th to January 15th. The minimum booking is 4 Adults per night
* Exclusive Use Rates Include Full board accommodation, airstrip transfers to and from Rangers Airstrip, laundry, all drinks (excluding Champagne), one session per person at the Shompole Hide, all activities (excluding helicopter flights)

* The minimum booking is 6 adults for 2 nights (2 children count as one adult)
* Check-in and Check-out: Guests can check in from 1100 hours. They need to be out of their rooms by 1000 hours, although they can continue to use the rest of the camp facilities
