This 1-night road safari is a luxury holiday from Nairobi to Solio Game Reserve – a private wildlife sanctuary, tucked in the valley between the lofty slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, directly north of Nairobi.

You stay at Solio lodge, a wonderful five-star accommodation that offers the perfect combination of superior service, excellent excursions, and is brilliant for rhino sightings. A bush breakfast here is a must!

Solio Ranch is a 45,000-acre ranch, with a 19,000-acre game conservancy. The reserve is located 30 km North of Nyeri Town and has over 120 black and white rhinos. By road, the journey takes around 4 hours from Nairobi. 

Solio Game Reserve is situated 180 km north of Nairobi on the Nyeri – Nyahururu road. Solio Lodge offers a wide range of activities including game drives, horse riding, a visit to a Kenya coffee plantation, and bird watching.

You can also take a helicopter to nearby Mount Kenya and for a hilltop picnic breakfast or go trout fishing in the Aberdare National Park. Back at the Lodge, you can relax with the help of massage therapists who are available for in-room treatments.

Accommodations available in and near the ranch include Rhino watch lodge, Aberdare country club, Sangare gardens, Naro Moru River lodge, Giraffe Ark Game Lodge, Mistly mountain lodge and Legacy gardens, etc.

Solio Game Reserve is home to various species such as the endangered Black and White Rhinos, buffalo, and eland as well as two northern species, the reticulated giraffe and the Beisa oryx. There is a lion, leopard, and cheetah as well as felines and creatures of the night.

0800 Hours: African Spice Safaris representative will provide a safari briefing before you depart for Solio Game Reserve/ Ranch situated 180 km north of Nairobi or 30 km north of Nyeri on the Nyeri – Nyahururu road.

The journey takes around 4 hours from Nairobi.

1300 Hours: We arrive in time for lunch, check in to our rooms then later relax before the evening game drive.

There are great chances of encountering numerous black and white rhinos, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, oryx, antelope, Thompson’s gazelle, impala, waterbuck and warthog.

Solio Ranch also offers some of the best leopards viewing in the country, and lions and cheetah can also be found.

Day 2: Solio Ranch – Drive to Nairobi

An option of indulging in a pre-breakfast game drive before going back to the lodge for a sumptuous breakfast.

Other activities include: Stretching your legs on foot or by mountain bike in the Solio Ranch and exploring the ranch with an early morning horse ride.

After breakfast or lunch, check out and drive back to Nairobi with lunch en route to arrive late in the evening.
