Suyian Soul Camp Laikipia

Suyian Soul Camp Laikipia is an adventure-focused, eco-friendly, and exclusive bush camp in a wild, remote part of Laikipia, about 350 km from Nairobi; it takes 5 hours by road and 1 hour by small aircraft. Daily scheduled flights to Nanyuki take about an hour from Nairobi, and the transfer time from Nanyuki Airstrip to the camp takes about 3 hours.

Suyian Soul is a tourist lodge (known locally as “Anne’s Camp”) on Suyian Ranch, which covers 43,495 acres and is a working, family-owned cattle ranch. Suyian is the Maa name for the African Wild Dog.

The Ranch is also home to rare and interesting plant species and large herds of livestock such as cattle, camels, sheep, and goats. Laikipia includes small-scale farmers, large-scale ranchers, pastoralists, conservancies, and forest reserves.

Suyian Soul Camp Laikipia has 7 thatched bandas, each with open-air bathrooms and safari hot-bucket showers/long drops, all well done and comfortable.

All rooms have mosquito nets. Guests will be comfortably accommodated in simple cottages built from local materials, with views of Mt. Kenya and the natural salt lick beneath a dramatic rocky escarpment.

Each bandas has a wide verandah and a lovely, peaceful outlook over a spring beneath a rocky outcrop, where many animals come for the salts in the slight soda water. A spacious, airy, public area and beautiful spreading Acacia tortilis tree provide shade for breakfast and lunch, with dinner served under the stars.

Suyian Ranch wild animals include elephant,  Beisa oryx, Jackson’s hartebeest, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, gazelle, ostrich, hippo, Burchell’s zebra, Grevy’s zebra, buffalo, lion, leopard, African wild dog, and occasionally cheetah, among many other species.

The birdlife both in and around camp is interesting and plentiful, with many dry bush country species.

Suyian Soul Camp activities include Morning and afternoon game drives on the ranch, guided bush walks along the Uaso Narok River, picnics by the river, and horseback, lion, and wild dog tracking.

Other available activities include camel walks around Suyian Ranch, fly camping, forest walks, bird watching, botanical walks focused on the most useful plants in the area and their local medicinal uses, visits to nearby local communities, and Soul holistic/ Yoga retreats.
