Swara Plains Wildlife Conservancy is only a 40-minute drive from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and is situated on the Kapiti Plains, opposite the rugged Lukenya Hill, just 35 minutes from the airport or 36 km from Nairobi city centre.

The private conservancy covering 20,000 acres offers a variety of activities, including sundowners, game drives, guided nature walks, night game drives with a spotlight, and bird watching.

The conservancy is home to 3,000 game animals, 300 bird species, and 8 dams. Wildlife includes cheetahs, antelopes, giraffes, ostriches, hyenas, and more. Other activity options include archery, yoga, safari bike rentals, and safari hikes.

Accommodation is available at Swara Plains Acacia Lodge, located within the conservancy, which offers comfortable, rustic cottages. There are 13 cozy little bandas, each with its own en-suite bathroom and a three-bedroom house. The Banda cottages and ensuite tents can sleep up to 50 guests.

Day 1: Arrival Swara Plains Acacia Lodge

0800 Hours – Departure: Leave Nairobi via the Mombasa Road or the Nairobi Expressway

1000 Hours – Arrival & Morning Game Drive: Arrive at the conservancy and immediately begin a game drive. You can expect to see large herds of Oryx, Eland, Wildebeest, and Giraffes across the 20,000-acre sanctuary
1300 Hours – Lunch: Check in and enjoy a 3-course meal or buffet at Swara Acacia Lodge

1400 Hours – Relaxation: Unwind in the lodge gardens, watch the monkeys, or enjoy the lodge facilities, such as the pool or billiards

1530 Hours– Afternoon Activity: Choose from several options:

0900 Hours: After breakfast at your hotel/ residence, depart by road to Swara Plains Conservancy, just 45 minutes out of the city of Nairobi. The 20,000-acre Swara Plains Conservancy is old wild Africa at its very best: wide-open savanna grasslands, tall yellow fever trees, endless views, over 3,000 resident easy-to-see game, and 270 bird species.

1000 Hours: Upon arrival, proceed on a game drive where you might see big herds of Oryx, eland, wildebeest, giraffe, monkey, hartebeest, zebra, impala, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle, warthog, and the occasional gerenuk.

The Swara Plains are part of the Tsavo-Amboseli ecosystem, and, with the exception of elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes, all other plains game found in Tsavo and Amboseli are found here.

1300 Hours: Arrive at the Acacia camp in time for lunch. Acacia Camp is a rustic safari resort with only 13 comfortable Bandas, limiting the number of visitors in the conservancy.

1530 Hours: After lunch, relax at the camp, then choose any of the following activities later: game drive, guided nature walk, or bird-watching excursion.

You could also ride your own bike if you have brought along one, or go fishing if you have brought a fishing boat.  Return later to the camp.

1930 Hours: Dinner is served.  Later, you may opt for a night game drive to see nocturnal creatures such as aardvarks, spring hares, bush babies, genets, and servals.

Day 2: Swara Plains Conservancy – Drive to Nairobi

0800 Hours: Today, you have breakfast at leisure, then choose to relax at the patio outside the Acacia Camp’s lounge, read a book in the cosy lounge, take a guided nature walk, or a game drive.

1230 Hours: Enjoy a 3-course meal followed by a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.

1500 Hours: Depart at leisure for Nairobi.
