Swara Plains Conservancy is just 30 minutes out of the city of Nairobi. The Small World Country Club on the southern side of the road marks the entranceway to Swara.

This 20,000-acre ranch is old wild Africa at its very best: wide-open savannah grasslands, tall yellow fever trees, endless views, an over 3,000-strong resident population of easy-to-see plains game, and over 270 bird species.

Swara Plains Conservancy is part of the Tsavo and Amboseli ecosystems, and, with the exception of elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes, all other plains game found in Tsavo and Amboseli are found here.

You will see big herds of Oryx, Elands, Wildebeests, Giraffes, Monkeys, Hartebeests, Zebras, Impalas, Grant’s and Thompson’s Gazelles, Warthogs, and the occasional Gerenuk in the total absence of mass tourism.

Swara Plains Wildlife Conservancy also has a good number of Cheetahs and Leopards, but they are rarely seen.

0800 Hours: After breakfast, depart for Swara Plains Conservancy in Athi River! Just 35 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or 36 Km’s from Nairobi, we escape the city hustle and bustle to this beautiful piece of unspoilt Africa.

0930 Hours: We arrive at Swara Plains Conservancy – situated on the Kapiti Plains opposite the rugged Lukenya Hill.

We proceed on a game drive, or you may opt to take a nature walk or cycle. The conservancy is privately fenced and covers 20,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary, with exclusive access for guests.

Unknown to many, Swara Plains Conservancy hosts a resident population of over 3,000 game animals and more than 280 bird species. The sanctuary is home to many species of plains animals, including cheetahs, Zebras, Elands, Oryx, Giraffes, Ostriches, numerous antelope, and more.

1300 Hours: Lunch is served at the Acacia Camp, Swara Plains.

1400 Hours: You may decide to relax the afternoon away at the camp or enjoy one of the many activities available at the camp

1700 Hours: Depart the conservancy for Nairobi
