The Conservancy is home to a wide variety of wildlife including the rare and endangered black rhinos, Grevy’s zebras, and sitatungas.
It also includes the big five (lion, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and Cape buffaloes). Lewa holds over 12% of Kenya’s eastern black rhinoceros population and the largest single population of Grevy’s zebras in the world (approximately 350 individuals).

Lewa has its own education program that helps develop schools and students. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is located in Meru County, south of Isiolo town but north of Mount Kenya.
Traveler numbers are carefully controlled and the survival of species like rhino, wild dog, and Grevy’s zebra is paramount – huge amounts of money and security are poured into their safekeeping. This is truly a place where you can feel your safari dollar goes straight back to the wildlife.
Add in unusual activities like scaling Mount Kenya, camel trekking, visits to chimpanzee sanctuaries, and flips in a vintage open cockpit biplane, and Laikipia and Lewa are made for adventurous travelers.
Once home to massive livestock ranches, Laikipia and the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is now Kenya’s premier places to see northern white rhino and black rhino, thanks in part to those same ranchers converting much of their land into successful conservation projects.
