The Highlands Ngorongoro Camp

The Highlands Ngorongoro Camp has been regularly voted one of the best hotels in the world; Located within the Ngorongoro Conservation area, The Highlands has a secluded position in the mountain forest near the Olmoti crater, to the north of the famed Ngorongoro Crater.

After an International flight into Kilimanjaro airport, the gateway to northern Tanzania, One can either drive to the Ngorongoro crater – approximately 4 hours, or take a flight to nearby Lake Manyara airstrip which is approximately 3 hours away from the camp.

The eight domed suites at The Highlands are made of canvas and glass and are surrounded by lush vegetation. Through the floor-to-canvas-ceiling bay windows, magnificent views can be enjoyed in the surroundings. En-suite bathrooms feature hot running water, as well as showers and flushing toilets. For the cold winter evenings, guests may make use of the wood-burning stoves.

Keeping with the exquisite attention to detail paid throughout the design and construction of The Highlands, the open-air breakfast deck has been perfectly positioned to make the most of the view, while the bar and fire pit overlook the sunset. There is one family tent with room for kids and one special honeymoon tent with a hot tub.

There is a huge range of activities available from The Highlands camp. Choose from exploring the Ngorongoro Crater or climbing the Olmoti volcano, to game drives, cultural visits, and excursions to see the pink flamingos congregating on the Empakaai Crater Lake. When out on game drives, look out for lions, leopards, black rhinos, and elephants.

We also welcome families with children over 5 years old and run a range of activities suitable for kids, including game drives and visits to nearby Maasai villages. Children over 12 can visit the Olmoti and Empakaai craters.
