The Trout Tree Restaurant is nestled within the lower end of the Tam Trout farm on the western slopes of Mt. Kenya. It’s located on the Burguret River, 3km from Nanyuki Civil Airstrip off the main Kiganjo-Nanyuki Road.
The Top Farm is located alongside the south route of the Naro Muro River, touching the boundary of The Mount Kenya Forest, a 2-hour drive from Nairobi and 13 km from Nanyuki town. The restaurant is built in and around a huge Mugumo (Sacred Fig) Tree, the restaurant serves fresh trout from the trout ponds below, char-grilled to perfection.
The menu also includes prime Laikipia beef and vegetarian options. On weekends a kids’ menu is available and the pizza oven is fired up to offer a variety of delicious pizzas. The restaurant can seat up to 60 people and has three troupes of resident Colobus Monkeys and several residents Tree Hyrax, as well as an abundance of bird life.
The property also has a cottage located on the lower end of the Tamtrout Trout Farm, Creaky Cottage provides a memorable getaway venue. Set in a tranquil corner, the Burguret River loops around the cottage on three sides.
This self-contained cottage sleeps up to 6 people, with two double bedrooms and two single beds set in the attic room accessed by a ladder. Creaky Cottage is so named because it is built around a huge evergreen Podo tree that towers over and shelters the house.
The cottage on self-catering only, but for those who would rather not cook, meals can be ordered from the restaurant. The whole cottage costs 25,000 Kenya Shillings per night, and a cook is also available on request.
The Trout Tree Restaurant activities include; trout fishing, learning about fish farming, visits to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Solio Ranch, Samburu game reserve, climbing Mt. Kenya. etc.
