Ubuntu Migration Camp Serengeti Tanzania

Ubuntu Camp is a luxury mobile camp with three spectacular locations across the north, west, and south of the Serengeti, depending on the season, following in the tracks of massive herds of wildebeest as they cross the vast plains of the Serengeti in an ancient migration cycle.

From late July to October, the camp sits in the Northern Serengeti near the Mara River and presents dramatic game drive encounters with the region’s rich wildlife, from the hippo and crocodile-filled waters to the big cats, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and elephants of the plains and woodlands.

Once the herds begin to migrate, so does Ubuntu, closing down in November to relocate to the southern Ngorongoro Conservation Area by December. During this time, guests have the opportunity to set out on walking safaris and cultural visits with national park rangers to experience the African bush more intimately.

The camp’s final stop is within the Western Corridor where it is perfectly located to catch the wildebeest herds on their journey across the Grumeti River in May and June. Given this migratory schedule, all of Ubuntu’s guides spend 11 months out of the year in the wilderness and have a wealth of knowledge, passed on from generation to generation, to contribute to the exclusive Ubuntu safari experience.

Ubuntu Migration Camp follows the colossal herds of wildebeest as they journey around the Serengeti. From the dramatic river crossings in the north to the fertile grasslands in the south where the wildebeest give birth. The main focus of this camp is undoubtedly the Great Migration and the untouched wilderness in which it happens.

Ubuntu Camp in Serengeti National Park is a traditional canvas safari bush camp with a true wilderness feel. Balancing authenticity with indulgent comfort, Ubuntu’s eight under-canvas tents are simple rooms of contentment.

Each contains a sturdy bed, canvas bedside tables, a small writing desk, and a set of directors’ chairs, the perfect perches from which to watch the world of the Serengeti go by. En-suite bathrooms, separated from the bedroom by canvas curtains, boast washing basins with running water, flushing toilets, and ‘pukka’ safari bucket showers, efficiently filled upon request.

The open-plan main area spills into the surrounding wilderness – impressive views of the landscape stretch as far as the horizon. Breakfast and lunch are served under canvas in the next-door dining tent, while dinner is often enjoyed under the stars beside the glowing embers of the campfire, to the soundtrack of the Serengeti’s nocturnal animals.

Three times a year this traditional-style safari camp packs up and moves to keep up with the massive herds of wildebeest as they migrate in a never-ending cycle in search of fresh grazing and plentiful water.

Activities available at Ubuntu Camp Include; Game drives, Hot-air balloon rides, 4WD Safari, Birdwatching, Cultural and community visits, Photographic safaris, etc
