Unguja Ukuu Boat Trip Zanzibar Day Tour is a very special day boat trip to Unguja Ukuu village, far off the tourist track in Zanzibar. This is a great expedition for snorkeling, swimming, and seafood enthusiasts.
Unguja Ukuu was the first capital city of the island of Zanzibar, and Unguja Ukuu Village is 17 miles by road from Zanzibar town. Unguja Ukuu is notable as the site of what is believed to be the earliest settlement on Zanzibar, dating back at least to the 8th century, although little remains from this era today.
Unguja Ukuu is an authentic village where tourism has had almost no impact. The area is surrounded by a mangrove forest. As one of Zanzibar’s most fertile places, its profusion of forest makes it feel like a place where spirits and magic reside. For now, the village offers only one hotel.
Our boat trip starts in Unguja Ukuu village aboard a traditional motorized dhow. We head to the small uninhabited islands, Miwi and Nianembe, or Kwale, in the protected Menai Bay, where you get to see the unique flora and fauna of Zanzibar’s tropical islands.
You stand some chance of spotting dolphins here, but not guaranteed as easy to spot as the ones in Kizimkazi village. If you get to see them here, you will likely be the only guests there. There are unspoiled beaches with glowing white sands, perfect for relaxation, and the sea around the islands is very good for snorkeling.
After snorkeling, the boat will take you to one of the small islands where your barbecued lobster and seafood buffet will be ready for you to tuck into. During low tide, you can walk around the Island with our village guide to show you a mystical cave behind the Island. On the way back to Unguja Ukuu, you can enjoy the sunset and the wonderful atmosphere around you.
The Unguja Ukuu boat trip is a private trip.
