Wajee Mara Camp

Wajee Mara Camp is a budget safari camp located on the edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve about one kilometer from the Sekenani main gate of Masai Mara National Reserve. The Camp is approached by an access road that branches off the main Narok – Sekenani road.

The lodge can be reached either by road or by air. The distance from Nairobi to Masai Mara is approximately 250 km. It takes around 5-6 hours by road while flying time takes about 45 minutes.

Wajee Mara Camp

The Camp is intimate in character, with just 11 en-suite tents and 1 cabin tucked in between the trees of an indigenous forest on the banks of a seasonal river. A natural river that teems with birds and wildlife serves as the Camp’s source of water.

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is on the other side of the river bank and at night the Camp comes alive with the hysterical laughter of hyenas, deep grunts of male lions, and the distant hoot of the African wood owl.

The tents have verandahs for guests to enjoy the serenity of the natural forest. Each one features modern facilities such as flushing toilets, hot showers, solar lighting, and comfortable beds. The Camp is also fully fenced with an electric fence and manned by guards 24hours for the security of the guests.

Occasionally, guests can witness wildlife such as elephants and antelopes grazing in the adjacent animal corridor. Wajee Mara Camp is highly sensitive about eco-friendliness and the environment and has sustainable practices in terms of refuse disposal, water conservation, and noise levels.

Wajee Mara Camp has its own dining area and kitchen where dishes are prepared and served. There is an open bonfire set up in the evenings where guests can exchange stories of the day’s escapades.

Guests who are camping have the option of having their meals at the dining area or preparing their meals in the individual private areas which have a cooking and dining section. The camping grounds are spacious and in a cool shaded area and have litter bins.

Wajee Mara Camp activities include: guided nature walks in the surrounding bush, game drives in 4 wheel drive vehicles in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Hot Air Balloons Safaris, visits to the nearby Maasai community manyattas, and visits to the conservation projects in the region.
