Our 2-Day 1 Night safari from Mombasa to Amboseli National Park is a short wildlife tour for guests in Mombasa with limited time to visit Kenya’s Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli is famous for close-up elephant encounters with its large elephant herds, flanked by the impressive Mount Kilimanjaro in neighboring Tanzania.
This overnight safari offers you the opportunity to see the large elephant herds for which Amboseli is famous, as well as other wild animals such as wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, giraffes, and other plains game.
Predators include lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, caracals, jackals, hyenas, and servals. Other inhabitants include crocodiles, mongoose, porcupines, warthog, hyrax, small dik-dik, impala, and Lesser Kudu, among other antelopes.
Elephant herds of over 100 individuals can be seen in Amboseli, which is renowned for its large, old bull elephants, which boast the largest tusks in Africa.
Amboseli hosts abundant birdlife, with over 400 bird species. Birdlife includes pelicans, bee-eaters, Egyptian geese, kingfishers, crakes, hammerkops, and 47 types of raptors, including various eagle species.
Amboseli National Park is located in southern Kenya, near the southern border with Tanzania and close to Mount Kilimanjaro, and is a 6-hour drive from Mombasa (400 km away). Amboseli is about a four-hour drive (240 km) southeast of Nairobi.
The game park is situated in the Loitoktok District, in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya, not far from Tsavo National Park to the east.
At around 180 km, it takes just over 4 hours to drive south to Arusha, the gateway to the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit. Amboseli is the closest Kenyan game park to Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit, which includes Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti National Park.
The park is the second most popular animal park after the Masai Mara and lies on the border with Tanzania. One of the highlights of visiting Amboseli National Park is encountering the proud Maasai people, indigenous to the region.
Experience the distinctive ways of these tall, semi-nomadic people, explore Maasai villages, and watch traditional dance performances. The area around Amboseli is dotted with Maasai settlements, with Oloitokitok town being a major Maasai hub.

0600 Hours: This morning, we depart Mombasa and drive through to the bush country of Amboseli National Park, home to the legendary Maasai tribesmen and famous for huge herds of elephants.
1200 Hours: Upon arrival at our lodge, we check in and lunch follows. Later, we have some time to relax, swim, and enjoy the camps/ lodge grounds.
1530 Hours: We have our afternoon tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate before setting out for the afternoon game drive. Amboseli offers some of the best opportunities to see African animals because its vegetation is sparse due to the long dry months.
The park is home to wild animals, including elephants, buffalo, impala, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeests, among other African species. There is also a host of Kenyan birds, both large and small, to see if you keep your eyes open and stop at every sighting.
1830 Hours: Return to the camp/ lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Amboseli National Park – Drive to Mombasa Island

There are over 900 African elephants in Amboseli, as well as huge herds of wildebeests and many other animals, including giraffes, African lions, monkeys, zebras, hyenas, and antelopes.
0930 Hours: We return to the lodge for breakfast.
