5 Days Ol Pejeta Lake Naivasha Masai Mara Lodge Safari from Nairobi

This 5-day Ol Pejeta, Lake Naivasha, and Masai Mara Safari begins and ends in Nairobi. You are whisked off to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, near Mount Kenya. At Sweetwaters Sanctuary in Ol Pejeta, you can meet our closest relatives at Kenya’s only chimpanzee rescue center.

Then it is on to the Great Rift Valley lake of Lake Naivasha. An optional afternoon activity (at an additional cost) is available: a boat trip to the fascinating Crescent Island in Lake Naivasha.

Crescent Island is the lip of an extinct ancient volcano that protrudes from freshwater Lake Naivasha and is home to the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. On Crescent Island, you may roam freely amid giraffes and herds of wildebeest, waterbuck, zebra, and gazelle while watching hippos wallowing in the waters offshore.

Next, we head to our authentic Masai Mara lodge and the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Here we look out for the Big 5 of Africa and a rich array of other wildlife, before visiting a local Maasai village to get a taste of traditional Kenyan culture.

Masai Mara National Reserve

This 5-day Kenya Safari explores the best Kenya Parks – Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Naivasha, and the Masai Mara National Reserve – on an incredible African wildlife tour.

Accommodation is in comfortable, well-known lodges in prime locations: within Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Masai Mara, and on the shores of Lake Naivasha. This wonderful safari begins and ends in Nairobi and includes a visit to the famous 90,000-acre private ranch, with magnificent views across the plains to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya.

This game sanctuary, the closest reserve to Nairobi (3.5 hours’ drive), is home to all the Big Five and has the highest game-to-area ratio of any park or reserve in Kenya. Its popular waterhole is floodlit at night, providing excellent, secluded, rarely seen game viewing. Game drives at Sweetwaters are indeed a pleasure.

Game viewing may also take the form of game walks accompanied by a resident Naturalist, game rides on horseback, Camel riding, night game drives, and “bush” lunches or dinners. The Chimpanzee Sanctuary is most informative and entertaining, and should be visited while in the Game Reserve.

The next destination is Lake Naivasha – a serene freshwater lake in a series of lakes formed by the Great Rift Valley. This beautiful lake is home to exceptional numbers of water birds.

The waters of the lake draw a great range of games to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallow in the swamps, and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lake’s large hippo populations sleep the day out in the shallows.

The Masai Mara Game Reserve – Kenya’s most famous and finest game sanctuary. In June and July each year, the wildebeests in their troops arrive at the Kenyan border, ready to cross the steep banks of the broad and fast-flowing Mara River.

This crossing is truly the greatest episode of the entire migration. Hot on their heels are the predators of the savannah –lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena, and vultures. The banks of the Mara River offer one of the best vantage points for witnessing the drama.

The Mara also offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is hard to believe, and over 450 bird species have been recorded here. You will most likely see the Big Five- lion, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and elephant. Not to mention numerous plain animals.

5 Days Ol Pejeta, Lake Naivasha & Masai Mara Lodge Safari Itinerary

This morning, we travel by road to the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia region, Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This 70,000-acre private preserve has views of the peaks of Mount Kenya and offers game drives into the countryside that many travelers never see.

We check into our tented camp or lodge, where we stay for the next two nights. We have lunch at the camp. Sweetwaters land, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, and its sumptuous ranch were once the private domain of famed multi-millionaire, Adnan Kashoggi.

This afternoon game drive takes us to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a charming haven established by the Jane Goodall Institute to provide sanctuary for orphaned chimps, and to the specially protected, fenced refuge for black rhinos, with its stunning 40 specimens!
