Arusha Cultural Day Tour Ilkidinga Village is a full-day guided tour from Arusha to Ilkidinga village, 7 kilometers north of Arusha town, Tanzania.  You will learn about the Maasai culture near Arusha, Tanzania, known as the Wa-Arusha people, a branch of the Maasai known for combining agriculture (coffee, bananas) with pastoralism. The tour offers insights into their households, healers, and craftsmen, and scenic views of Mount Meru.

The tour includes guided walks through farms and hills, visits to local homes and schools, learning about traditional crafts such as knife-making, and enjoying local food and dance, with proceeds supporting the community.

Ilkiding’a village is 10 km north of Arusha town, a 30-minute drive away. Walking from Arusha is also possible, but it will take 2 hours to reach the tour’s starting point.

From here, you will walk down to the Ngarenaro River, cross it, and climb Leleto Hill. Once at the top of Leleto hill, you will enjoy a view of the Maasai steppe and its volcanoes. You will continue to walk through the fields to the forest reserve of Mount Meru National Park. Along the way, you will stop at Ilkisongo Viewpoint.

At 1230 Hours, you will proceed back to Sembeo’s household, where the women’s group will offer you a sumptuous lunch.

After lunch, you will meet with a traditional healer and the craftspeople, then visit the canyon. A visit to a primary school is also included in the tour. After the school tour, you can take a ride back to Arusha or walk. The walk will take about 2 hours.

At approximately 1800 Hours, we return to our hotel/residence.

The drive from Arusha takes only 30 minutes.  Walking from Arusha is also possible but it will take you 2 hours to reach the starting point of the tour.

0900 Hours: Arusha Cultural Day Tour Ilkidinga Village departs from your hotel/ residence. We pick you up and transfer you to the village starting point.

From here you will walk down to the Ngarenaro River, cross it, and climb Leleto hill. Once at the top of Leleto hill, you will enjoy a view of the Maasai steppe and its volcanoes.

You will continue to walk through the fields to the forest reserve of Mount Meru National Park. Along the way, you will have a rest stop at Ilkisongo Viewpoint.

1230 Hours: Proceed back to Sembeo’s household where the women’s group will offer you a sumptuous lunch.

1400 Hours: After lunch, you will visit with a  traditional healer, the craftsmen group, and later visit the canyon. A primary school visit is also included in the tour.

After the school tour, you can ride back to Arusha or walk back. The walk will take about 2 hours.

1800 Hours: We return to our hotel/ residence
