Kicheche Laikipia Camp Ol Pejeta Conservancy | sits directly on the Equator | ~14 km (30-minute drive) from Nanyuki town | ~217 km (4.5 hrs from Nairobi | ~2 km from Kamok Airstrip inside the reserve
Kicheche Laikipia offers an intimate safari immersed in one of Kenya’s most celebrated conservation landscapes. With just 6 elegant canvas tents tucked into the indigenous forest, this eco-camp combines contemporary design with the untamed spirit of the highland bush.
Shaded by woodland and overlooking water often visited by elephant, waterbuck, birdlife, and the occasional hippo, the camp balances pristine luxury with low-impact travel. At 6,000 feet (1,829 meters) above sea level, days are fresh and bright, and evenings invite the glow of a crackling fire, a welcome contrast to the lowland heat.
Guided by seasoned naturalists, guests encounter endangered rhinos and a rich array of wildlife while gaining rare insight into Ol Pejeta’s pioneering conservation efforts, ensuring your presence directly supports wildlife protection and community empowerment.
Location & Accessibility
✓ Located in the heart of the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta Conservancy in northern Kenya, positioned exactly on the Equator with sweeping views of Mount Kenya
✓ Nestled at the foot of an indigenous forest overlooking a busy natural waterhole in a restricted, remote wilderness zone, ensuring a low-traffic, exclusive safari experience
✓ Set within a pioneering conservation model that transitioned from a colonial cattle ranch into a premier sanctuary holding East Africa’s largest black rhino population and the world’s last northern white rhinos
By Road
✓ Readily accessible from Nanyuki town, the region’s nearest major hub, which is located approximately a 30-minute drive from the conservancy’s main gates
✓ The route is predominantly paved tarmac up to Nanyuki, transitioning to well-maintained dirt roads as you head deeper into the conservancy toward the camp
✓ Accessible via a scenic 200 to 220-kilometer overland drive from Nairobi along the well-maintained A2 highway, typically taking 3.5 to 4.5 hours depending on traffic and road conditions
By Air
✓ Private charters can also fly directly into Kamok Airstrip, which is located right inside the Ol Pejeta Conservancy
✓ Daily scheduled flights depart from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Nanyuki Airstrip, with a direct flying time of approximately 40 to 45 minutes
✓ Camp transfers from either airstrip take about 45 to 60 minutes in a customized 4×4 safari vehicle, effectively serving as an immersive first game drive through the plains
✓ Flight times can occasionally extend up to a couple of hours if the scheduled aviation route includes brief touch-downs at other regional airstrips (like the Samburu or Lewa regions) before reaching the Laikipia highlands
