Lake Bogoria Lake Baringo 3 Days 2 Nights Road Safari

Combine two spectacular lakes in the Great Rift Valley on this 3-day road safari to Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo. This safari begins and ends in Nairobi. Our safari departs Nairobi by road for Lake Bogoria, a shallow, saline lake located 285 km from Nairobi (a 4-hour-and-30-minute drive).

Lake Bogoria is located in Lake Bogoria National Park, home to Africa’s most magnificent antelope, the greater kudu, and other savannah wildlife. Animals include Zebra, impala, Grant’s gazelle, Klipspringer, buffalo, dik, and Patas monkey, among others.

Predators include the leopard, cheetah, hyena, mongoose, jackal, and Karakul cat. Lake Bogoria National Reserve has 135 bird species. This is in addition to more than 310 resident and 50 migratory bird species – 374 bird species have been recorded.

In the recent past, it has become the most stable home of the lesser flamingo with a population approaching two million birds.  Lake Bogoria is an alkaline lake because it has no outlet. It is geothermally active on the western side with over 120 hot geysers with temperatures of 94 degrees Celsius, enough to boil an egg.

Following lunch at your lodge or camp, you will take an afternoon game drive during which you will walk to the Lake Bogoria Hot Springs, as well as encounter flamingos and diverse forest inhabitants.

The following day, we depart Lake Bogoria and drive 50 km to Lake Baringo. Lake Baringo is a freshwater lake with a water inlet but no particular outlet, as it’s believed that water seeps through the underlying rocks.

The lake is well known for its large population of crocodiles and hippos swimming in it. The lake has small islands called Ol Kokwe, which offer a great view of the lake and are the best spot for bird watching.

We explore Lake Baringo, famous as a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 450 species recorded. Lake Baringo is home to a large population of crocodiles and hippos.

Activities that take place at the Lake Baringo National Reserve are fishing, bird watching, skiing, surfing, and wildlife watching.
