The Mount Meru Hiking Arusha, Tanzania 1 Day Trip is a short, rewarding adventure designed for guests with limited time who are not interested in reaching the summit of Tanzania’s second-highest mountain.

The tour begins with collection from Kilimanjaro Airport, Arusha, or Moshi. It is followed by a transfer to the Tengeru Cultural Centre, 12 km from Arusha town, along the Arusha – Moshi road. Tengeru Cultural Centre is located on the slopes of Mount Meru.

You will soak up the local culture by meeting local people along the mountainside while viewing lush greenery and wildlife in the lower slopes of Mt Meru Forest. The hike begins by following the tropical trails under the banana canopy while listening to some thrilling legendary stories about the Meru people from your guide, as you go past beautiful villages, where you will receive a very warm and friendly welcome from the villagers.

While walking up the mountain, you will explore the beauty of the forest’s flora and fauna – rich birdlife, beautiful butterflies, monkeys, forest antelopes, and several medicinal plants – enjoying at the same time spectacular views of the lower areas of Arusha. The hike is bound to make you work up an appetite! 

You will stop for lunch in a relaxing setting, then continue hiking for another hour to reach the beautiful waterfall at an altitude of 2200 meters, where you can take a dip in the cold, refreshing water.

Thereafter, you can take more photos to bring back home as souvenirs. After taking a few moments to relax in the fall, you will begin heading back to the center. The tour ends with a transfer back to Arusha. Mount Meru 1-day hiking tour in Arusha; duration is approximately 7 hours (4 hours to ascend and 3 hours to descend). You will cover approximately 18 km round-trip—overall tour duration: 8 hours.

0800 Hours: After breakfast, depart from your hotel and drive to Tengeru Cultural Center.  Upon arrival, you will enjoy a refreshing cup of herbal tea and receive a briefing on the day’s hike from our guide.

0900 Hours: We start hiking.  You will follow the tropical trails under the banana canopy while listening to some thrilling legendary stories about the Meru people from your guide. Most of the hike is like walking up a steep hill past numerous villages and people’s farms.

While walking up the mountain, you will explore the beauty of the forest’s flora and fauna – rich bird life, beautiful butterflies, monkeys, forest antelopes, and several medicinal plants – enjoying at the same time spectacular views of the lower areas of Arusha.

1200 Hours: Hiking Mount Meru is bound to make you work up an appetite! We stop for lunch in a relaxing setting with abundant mountain flowers. Lunch consists of bread, pancakes, juice, and fruit.

1300 Hours: We continue hiking for another hour to reach the magnificent Meru Fall at an altitude of 2200 meters. You can take a dip in the cold, refreshing water of the waterfalls.

1400 Hours: After taking a few moments of relaxation in the fall, you will start heading back to the center.

1700 Hours: You will return to the Tengeru Cultural Center, then we will transfer you back to Arusha to your hotel or residence.
