Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary 2 Days Mombasa Safari takes you to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary Kenya's first community Wildlife Sanctuary, home to Kenya's big tuskers (Elephants).
Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary is located in East Africa, in the Kwale District of Kenya's Coastal Province, and is a mere 45 km's southwest of Mombasa. The sanctuary has an area of 36 km², and it, along with the adjacent Shimba Hills National Reserve combine to form the Shimba Hills Ecosystem.
There are plenty of attractions in the park like large mammals including some very friendly Zebras, Warthog, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Baboons, Colobus and Sykes Monkeys.
The landscape in Mwaluganje is diverse and ranges from the dry baobab bush land to moist deciduous forest on the hills and riverine forest along the streams.
Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary has another attraction; presence of an endemic cycad that looks like a primitive palm tree makes Mwaluganje floristically unique.
For wild flower lovers, this is paradise when the cliffs turn pink with blooming desert roses at the end of the rainy season (November) and when most plants flower at the start of the rainy season.

Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary Educational Experience: Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary was launched in the early '90's largely to reduce local human/ Elephant conflicts, which were on the rise due to both more
Elephants and more people. Elephants would destroy crops and people would retaliate. More than 200 families have voluntarily contributed land to the reserve, agreeing not to farm this important elephant habitat.
Today, they live nearby and manage the sanctuary, earning more from tourism than from farming, a critical factor in ensuring the survival of these elephants.

Day 1: Mombasa – Drive to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary
0830 Hours: Depart in the morning from your Beach Hotel or residence to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary.
1030 Hours: Upon arrival at the park proceed to enjoy a mid-morning Game Drive. Wildlife spices include; Elephants, zebra, warthog, bushbuck, waterbuck, baboons, leopard, porcupine, mongooses, bush babies etc.
In addition, the park has a rich diversity of birds, reptiles and invertebrates. The landscape in Mwaluganje is diverse and ranges from the dry baobab bush land to moist deciduous forest on the hills and riverine forest along the streams.
Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary other attractions include; Plants, flowers, butterflies and Birds of prey such as the monkey-eating crowned eagle and the palm nut vulture.

Day 2 : Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary – Shimba Hills Game Sanctuary – Mombasa
0830 Hours: Breakfast at the lodge, checkout and drive to Shimba Hills Game Sanctuary.
A variety of wildlife can be easily seen in good numbers such as Elephants, Buffalos and unique, rare and impressive Sable antelope; the bird life at Shimba Hills Reserve is also prolific.
1200 Hours: Enjoy lunch at Shimba Hills forest Lodge. This lodge enjoys great views and overlooks a waterhole where you can see wildlife congregating as well as experience the beautiful bird life.
1400 Hours: After lunch return to Mombasa by road.
1800 Hours: Arrive back at your hotel/ residence.
