3-Day/ 2-Night white water rafting expedition on the Athi River
Our 3-day white-water rafting expedition on the Athi River is a premier multi-day “river safari” in Kenya, combining adrenaline-pumping Class II to IV rapids with spectacular wildlife viewing along the borders of Tsavo East National Park.
Few river trips on this planet can compare with the Athi River expedition. Classified as one of the top ten river trips in the world, the bountiful Athi River offers a combination of exhilarating whitewater and stunning views of African wildlife in their natural habitat.
The section of the Athi River that you will raft borders Tsavo National Park to the east. You will be able to view bushbuck, giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, not to mention crocodiles, monkeys, baboons, and hippos.
The birdlife is spectacular, with a record of over 120 species to date. If you like multi-day expedition-style trips, then the Athi is for you!
Flowing through Tsavo National Park, we raft up to 80km of Kenya’s second-longest river for three days and three nights.
The river gives an awesome mixture of relaxing, calm water with game viewing (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, crocodile, and hippo have all been seen from our boats) and abundant birdlife, interspersed with some great whitewater (up to grade IV).
The trip usually goes out fully self-supported, with our guides providing breakfast (fully cooked or cereals/fruit/toast), lunch (a selection of cold meats and cheeses with bread/salad and fruit), and dinner (three courses).
If a more luxurious trip is your style, then vehicle support (at an extra cost) is available to bring those added necessities.
The Athi River is a “pool/ drop” river, meaning we float through pools of calm water, admire the wildlife, and then navigate a rapid between class 2 and 4 white water, giving us the ultimate river Safari.
