Our 10-day Kenya Fly-in Safari to Samburu, Laikipia & Masai Mara combines three beautiful lodges for the ultimate Kenya Luxury Flying safari.

This journey takes you across two of Kenya’s last great wildlife areas, staying in the remote northern reaches, as well as the most famous reserve, the Masai Mara – home to the Big Five. The first three nights will be spent at Saruni Samburu, the next 3 nights will be spent at Ol Lentille in Laikipia and the last three nights will be spent at Saruni Mara.

Each of the three camps provides a wonderful individual and different experience and more importantly, they sit in areas away from the crowds, allowing for unspoiled and exclusive wildlife encounters.

Begin in the wild northern landscape of Kenya at Saruni Samburu located at the heart of the Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy. The camp is set in the mountains of the Kalama Conservancy that adjoins the Samburu National Reserve.

It boasts two swimming pools, one of which overlooks a waterhole where elephants, giraffes, and zebra are often seen drinking in the morning and late afternoon. Samburu is home to incredible numbers of wildlife and game drives are always an exciting and rewarding activity while spending time in this region.

After spending a few days in the luxurious surroundings of Saruni Samburu, you’ll fly onward to Ol Lentille Lodge located in the Ol Lentille Conservation Area in Laikipia, East of Samburu National Reserve. 

Ol Lentille is a breathtaking place and offers a great base from which to explore this fascinating and diverse part of Kenya. Activities include horse and camel riding (short rides or longer treks with fly camping), and there is a Parcours jogging trail.

Croquet and boules are on offer on the lawn. For the more active of you, mountain biking, quad-biking (ATVs), and rock climbing are available. Also, explore the conservancy on both day and night game drives and guided walks to get some sightings of the local game.

Located in the far southwest of Kenya in the Great Rift Valley, the Masai Mara National Reserve is the East African country’s flagship park. Here, Saruni Mara (small, boutique lodge) in Mara North Conservancy provides an opulent base for exploration and game viewing. 

The Mara North Conservancy boundary with the Masai Mara Game Reserve is unfenced, meaning the wildlife wanders freely back and forth. The viewing is fantastic, with lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, and rhinos amongst the many species regularly spotted.

Game walks are wonderful here – offering a closer and more intimate interaction with the reserve’s habitat and inhabitants.

Day 1: Nairobi – Fly to Samburu (Kalama Conservancy)

After breakfast at your hotel/ residence in Nairobi, we transfer you to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport for a scheduled morning flight to Samburu. After an hour’s flight, arrive at Samburu Airstrip where your guide will meet & transfer you to the lodge or otherwise take you on a short game drive en route to the lodge.

Check-in, drop off your safari baggage in your luxurious, spacious villa and after freshening up, head over to the dining area for lunch. After lunch, go on a game drive in Kalama Conservancy exploring over 200,000 acres of pristine wilderness in total privacy.

Enjoy sundowners with a breathtaking view, before heading back to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Saruni Samburu.

Day 2: Explore Samburu Kalama Conservancy

Early morning game drives into Samburu National Reserve to seek out the ‘Samburu Special Five: the reticulated giraffe, the Grevy zebra, the beisa oryx, the Somali ostrich, and the gerenuk, all rare species that occur only in this part of the country.

Enjoy a picnic lunch before heading back to the lodge to relax for the afternoon.  Enjoy a complimentary half-hour massage upon arriving back at the lodge at the Samburu Wellbeing Space

Day 3: Explore Samburu Kalama Conservancy

Continue to explore the wonders of Samburu with a morning game drive and after lunch head out on a nature walk to discover animals, plants, and the caves in the local area with rock paintings, led by your skilful and knowledgeable Samburu guides.

Evening game drive in Kalama Conservancy, the 200,000-acre private wildlife conservancy in which Saruni Samburu is located, ending with a bush dinner under the stars in the middle of the wilderness, and a night drive back to the lodge.

The Samburu warriors dancing, candles, and fire under the vast African skies, make this a truly magical experience, and one of the highlights of your stay.

Day 4: Samburu – Fly to Ol Lentille Conservancy, Laikipia

After breakfast at Saruni Samburu, take a 20-minute charter flight to Laikipia, enjoying the spectacular views. Lunch at Ol Lentille. In the afternoon, choose from either having a spa treatment, taking the quad bikes to visit the local village & singing wells, or climbing up the Ol Lentille rock for breathtaking views while enjoying sundowners.

Private dinner in your villa or in the Library.

Day 5: Explore Ol Lentille Conservancy, Laikipia

Following a leisurely breakfast in your villa, you can head out for a guided camel safari into the wilderness with the Maasai warriors observing the wildlife from a top of a camel – a unique and very different experience.

This finishes with a picnic lunch by the river and you can experience traditional honey gathering on the way back to the lodge.• Afternoon at leisure, maybe indulge in some spa treatments and enjoy sundowners followed by a bush dinner under the vast African skies.

Day 6: Explore Ol Lentille Conservancy, Laikipia

Enjoy a walking safari after breakfast and learn about wildlife, flora, and fauna. After lunch maybe visit a local school or the local weekly livestock market, culturally enriching and very special, or indulge in the spa with more treatments.

After sundowners enjoy a lovely dinner around the fire in the library.

Day 7: Laikipia – Fly to Masai Mara Game Reserve (Mara North Conservancy)

After breakfast at Ol Lentille, transfer to Nanyuki Airstrip by road, which takes 2 hours, to catch your flight to Masai Mara. Upon arrival at the Mara North Airstrip, you will be met and given the option to either go straight on a game drive with a picnic lunch under an acacia tree or by the river next to a pod of hippos.

Alternatively head straight to the Lodge, to rest & relax, and then head out on a game drive after lunch, in Mara North Conservancy – over 30,000 acres of protected land bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Enjoy a completely different and less-explored corner of the Mara ecosystem in total privacy, brimming with wildlife.

Day 8: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve (Mara North Conservancy)

Enjoy an early morning game drive to look for big cats and other predators. Come back to the lodge in time for breakfast. Rest of the morning at leisure or enjoy spa treatments at the Maasai Wellbeing Space (spa treatments are at extra costs).

Lunch, and then later in the afternoon, go on a game drive to a special area where the largest tower of giraffes can be seen. Dinner at the lodge, with an optional night game drive.

Day 9: Masai Mara Game Reserve (Mara North Conservancy)

In the morning, either walk through the valleys & plains or go on a game drive up to the top of Kilileoni, the highest mountain in the Serengeti-Masai Mara ecosystem. Come back to the lodge in time for breakfast. In the afternoon, after lunch, explore more of Mara North Conservancy, and its neighbouring conservancies.

Head back to the lodge, and in the evening, weather permitting, experience a bush dinner with Maasai warriors singing and dancing around the fire, under the vast African skies.

10: Masai Mara – Fly to Nairobi

Wake up at leisure, and have breakfast at the lodge. Visit the rhino sanctuary on the way to the airstrip, while watching the hippos & crocodiles on the Mara River. The flight back is mid-morning, and you will arrive in Nairobi at around midday.

Upon arrival at Wilson Airport, transfer to either a restaurant for lunch (lunch excluded), or to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward international flight or to a Nairobi-based hotel.
