Departing from Nairobi this 3 Day Kenya safari combines two of Kenya’s top game parks, Lake Nakuru National Park & Lake Naivasha taking you on a scenic journey through the beautiful Great Rift Valley of Kenya. The tour begins and ends in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
Your 3 day safari begins with a visit to Lake Nakuru National Park located 160 km about 3 hours from Nairobi. After lunch, we embark on an afternoon game-viewing drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, in search of its diverse wildlife and birds.
This Great Rift Valley lake attracts over 400 different bird species, including many water birds. This birding haven hosts species such as the great white pelican, African spoonbill, yellow-billed stork, lesser and greater flamingo, and long-crested eagle.
Lake Nakuru is known as an important wildlife sanctuary for some of Africa’s endangered species, especially black and white rhinos, lions, waterbucks, warthogs, impalas, buffalo, Rothschild giraffes, elands, endangered black rhinos, baboons, and, occasionally leopards which we keep an eye out for on our game drive.
After an overnight in Lake Nakuru, we travel to Lake Naivasha – a freshwater lake with a picturesque view of Mount Longonot, located 80 km from Lake Nakuru. Lake Naivasha has many different types of wildlife with a good portion of hippos and fish including Crayfish, Tilapia, and Black bass.
This beautiful lake is home to exceptional numbers of water birds. There are 400 species of birds of which Great Cormorants, Long-tailed, Fish Eagles, Pelicans, and all types of Kingfishers, as well as the Grey-backed fiscal, are some.
Activities available in Naivasha include bird watching, visiting the crescent island game sanctuary, boat excursions, and Hells Gate National Park.
3 Day Safari Lake Nakuru Naivasha Hells Gate Park Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park
0800 Hours: Today, we travel to the exotic Lake Nakuru National Park located in the Great Rift Valley. Upon arrival, proceed on a game drive. There are also several of Rothschild’s giraffes. Among the predators are lions and leopards, the latter of which is seen much more frequently in recent times.
The Park also has large pythons that inhabit the dense woodlands and can often be seen crossing roads or dangling from trees.
1300 Hours: Lunch, then relax as you enjoy the spectacular view of Lake Nakuru National Park.
1500 Hours: An exciting ‘Spice’ game run is planned for the afternoon. The game in this Park is plentiful, and the magnificent bird-watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. The Park is home to stunning flocks of lesser and Greater Flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores into a magnificent pink stretch.
The birdlife here is world-renowned, with over 400 species, including White Pelicans, Plovers, Egrets, and Marabou Storks. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the White Rhino and the rare Rothschild Giraffe.
1830 Hours: Return to the lodge/ camp for overnight

Day 2: Lake Nakuru National Park – Drive to Lake Naivasha
0630 Hours: Early morning safari game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.
0900 hours: We have breakfast at the lodge, then check out and proceed to Lake Naivasha, located 80 Kilometers away.
1200 Hours: We arrive at Lake Naivasha in time for lunch, then rest.
1400 Hours: We enjoy a boat ride on Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake with picturesque views of Mount Longonot, hippos, and over 400 bird species on the island.
Some of the birds seen include pelicans, African fish eagles, African darters, cormorants, and the lesser flamingos, which are migratory.
Our tour this afternoon also includes a visit to Crescent Island via a Boat ride for a guided nature walk, where you can see Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra, and Gazelle up close.

Day 3: Lake Naivasha – Hell’s Gate National Park – Drive to Nairobi
0700 Hours: Enjoy a delicious breakfast; we visit Hell’s Gate National Park.
We drive a short distance to the entrance of Hell’s Gate National Park. Covering an area of about 68 square km, it is one of the few game parks in Kenya where you can walk, run, or cycle alongside Giraffe, Zebra, Gazelles, and other wildlife.
There are many activities you can do within Hell’s Gate, including walking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching, and trekking through the gorge amongst the geysers – the choice is yours.
1300 Hours: Picnic lunch in the park.
1500 Hours: In the late afternoon, we depart by road, driving through the Great Rift Valley to Nairobi.
