4 Days 3 Night Kitich Forest Camp Fly-in Safari Information
This incredible 4-day (3-night) fly-in safari is a high-quality air safari holiday to Kitich Forest Camp set in a truly remote and private location in a stunning forest glade on the upper slopes of the Mathews Mountains (also known as the Lenkiyio Hills).
The Matthews Mountain Range is located in Kenya’s Northern Frontier and is one of the country’s wildest areas. The only permanent river in the region, the Ewaso Ng’iro, has cut deep gorges through the mountains and is home to many species.
Herds of gazelle, oryx, ostrich, and Grevy’s zebra share the pastureland with Samburu cattle. Elephants are found in significant numbers, whilst lions, leopards, greater kudu, waterbuck, giant forest hogs, buffaloes, and even wild dogs are among the other species found, together with more than 200 bird species.
Our 4-day (3-night) fly-in safari starts with a transfer from your Nairobi hotel/residence to Wilson Airport. From here, you will fly by light aircraft to Kalama Airstrip in Samburu or Loisaba Airstrip in Loisaba Conservancy. The types of aircraft vary from smaller Cessnas to Caravans.
The flying time from Nairobi to Kalama Airstrip in Samburu takes approximately 1.5 hours. Our representative will meet you at the strip and transfer you (with a 4×4 safari vehicle) to Kitich Forest Camp. The transfer from Kalama Airstrip to camp is about 2.5 hours, while the transfer to Loisaba is approximately 3.5 hours.
Kitich Forest Camp Activities: Without roads, you can get up close and track game on foot in the company of an expert guide and armed ranger. The area is rich in wildlife, with an abundance of rare northern species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and the beisa oryx (also known as the Samburu Special Five).
Hundreds of elephants call this reserve home, and large predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs are also an attraction. Birdlife is abundant, with over 450 species recorded. There is game aplenty, but other opportunities for education and diversion also abound: swimming in natural rock pools, bird watching, bush picnics, and enlightening visits to local Samburu families.
At the end of your 3-night stay, you will return to Wilson Airport by light aircraft. What sets this 4 Days 3 Night Kitich Forest Camp Fly-in Safari apart is the opportunity to walk into the forests accompanied by expert Samburu guides, alongside superb accommodation and genuine interaction with the local landscape and people.
