Named after Elsa the lioness of ‘Born Free‘ fame, Elewana Elsas Kopje Meru lodge is invisible to the eye as you approach the Kopjes. George Adamson’s original campsite was located nearby. Because it is the only operational lodge in Meru National Park, Elsa’s guests have the entire park to themselves.
Elewana Elsas Kopje Meru has a special license for walking Safaris, fishing, and conducting night Game Drives. The peak of Mughwango Hill where Elsa’s Kopje lodge is located looks down over Meru National Park giving a full 360-degree view of the plains and volcanic landscape.
Elewana Elsas Kopje Meru Lodge 9 individually built cottages are well-appointed and designed to incorporate the natural features of the rocky hillside. The cottages are spacious and have double or twin beds, with en-suite bathrooms. There is an open bar area, lounge, and dining room where guests can relax. The infinity pool overlooks the Meru National Park plains.
Elewana Elsas Kopje Meru activities available here include game drives in 4-wheel drive vehicles, night game drives, and guided bush walks. Regular sightings include Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Elephant, Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Lesser Kudu, Grant’s Gazelle, Leopard, Lion, Cheetah, Rhino, and the rare, elusive Greater Kudu.
Meru National Park is also famous for its birdlife. Day excursions can be taken to the Tana River and visits to the local Tharaka village can be arranged. Soft drinks, beer, house wines, and non-luxury spirits are included. There is a limited laundry service.

Day 1: Nairobi – Fly to Meru National Park
0600 Hours: In the morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Wilson Airport to catch your flight to Meru National Park.
0830 Hours: Fly on the daily service to Meru National park.
0925 Hours: Flight arrives in Meru. Upon arrival at Meru National Park Airstrip, we transfer to Elewana Elsa’s Kopje Meru Lodge with a game drive en route.
1530 Hours: Enjoy an afternoon game drive where you might see lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, and some of the rarer antelopes, lesser kudu, and duiker. The rivers abound with hippos and crocodiles. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded.

Day 2 & 3: Discover Meru National Park
In the morning take a walk in the bush or take an extended game drive with a picnic breakfast to explore the many rivers transecting the park. The untamed wilderness of Meru National Park is renowned for its Elephant herds, rare northern endemic species with fantastic flora, and changing terrain.
Return to the lodge for lunch and late afternoon game drive till sunset.
