Lake Manyara National Park Wildlife

This unforgettable 3-day Lake Manyara National Park Safari explores one of the top game parks in East Africa’s leading safari country – Tanzania. Lake Manyara National Park is part of Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit, the top game viewing region in this game-rich East African country.

Lake Manyara National Park is located 125 km (78 miles) southwest of Arusha, which is a 2-hour drive. Our safari kicks off with a game drive in Lake Manyara, a compact park dominated by the shallow, soda lake after which it is named.

On the game drive, we often sight Elephants, Hippos, Zebras, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Impalas, Primates, Warthogs, and Wildebeest. The park is also famous for its tree-climbing Lions, as well as being home to massive baboon troops and a large population of Elephants.

With over 400 recorded bird species found in Lake Manyara National Park, a visit to the park provides a great overview of the birdlife in Tanzania. Bird species include numerous water birds, especially the flocks of pink flamingos, found in the thousands fringing the shallow Lake Manyara.

After our game drive, we head to a safari camp/ lodge in Lake Manyara for dinner and an evening of relaxation. Lake Manyara Accommodation includes andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, Escarpment Luxury Lodge, Lake Manyara Kirurumu Camp, and Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge.

On day two we spend the day exploring Lake Manyara National Park on morning and afternoon game drives. In addition to the tree-climbing Lions and big Elephant herds that Manyara is famous for, the park is also home to an abundance of Hippos, as well as plenty of Buffalo, Zebra, and Wildebeest.

Lion, Leopard, Rhino, and Giraffe inhabit the park, along with Bushbuck, Impala, and Warthog. Manyara National Park also hosts great numbers of baboons and monkeys, as well as banded mongoose and klipspringers.

Waterbirds that flock the park, include pelicans, cormorants, and storks. Hornbill, Spoonbill, Egyptian Goose, White Faced Duck, Red-Billed Quelea, Long-crested Eagle, Grey-headed Kingfisher, and Sacred Ibis. We overnight at our camp/ lodge again in Lake Manyara on our second night in Tanzania.

On day 3, we enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the morning then we drive back to Arusha where our memorable 3-day Lake Manyara Tanzania road Safari comes to a close.

Day 2: Full Day in Lake Manyara National Park

Today we spend the day exploring Lake Manyara National Park on morning and afternoon game drives.

Lake Manyara is one of the very few places in Africa to see tree-climbing Lions, which we may declare our day’s quest, being so thoroughly sated with the big herds of preceding parks.

The tree climbing Lions are the park’s main attraction.  Why these lions habitually climb trees is still up for debate but viewing a pride relaxing in an acacia tree is an incredible site.

The park is also famous for its Elephant, a huge number of baboons and due to its varied landscape has an impressive range of other game including Wildebeest, Buffalo, Hippo, Flamingo, Zebra, Warthog, Waterbuck, Dik-dik, and Impala.

Birding here is very good, especially raptors. You can also see pelicans, storks, kingfishers, and many other birds. It is also a famous jungle, where early Tanzanian movies were filmed.
