Markham Cottage Olepangi Farmstead Timau

Markham Cottage is a 1-bedroom holiday cottage located in Olepangi Farmstead in Timau. The cottage is located 45 minutes from Nanyuki. Olepangi Farm sits little north of Nanyuki Town at the foothills of Mount Kenya.

Set on 120 acres, Olepangi Farm has beautifully appointed cottages with amazing views over the natural surroundings and is hosted by the owners, Elizabeth and Clinton who have developed the farm as a lifelong dream to live in such a paradise.

The Markham Cottage features a 7-foot-wide (king size) British Raj bed made in India dating from about 1840 and an antique Herzi carpet. The bed would have been used by a senior officer of the British military. It features stunningly carved bare-breasted angels on the headboard.

The private bathroom is fitted with a shower and comes with beautiful organic soap, shampoo, and conditioner handmade in Kenya. Tucked away, this cottage is slightly more private than the other cottages (Olepangi House, Round House, Thesiger Cottage, Burton Cottage, Speke Cottage, and Villa Gorilla).

It is the perfect spot for a romantic weekend away or for admiring the views and enjoying the bird life from its private balcony. Guests have the run of the farm – in particular the ‘Party House’, with its soaring makuti-thatched ceiling, which houses our dining room and bar, drawing room, and library.

At the farm, guests can enjoy massages; horse riding, community walks, croquet, gin tastings, and the favorite option “do nothing.” Further afield, the beautiful Laikipia region is ideal for hiking, horse riding, and game viewing.

Guests can take day trips into the many neighboring wildlife reserves including Samburu National Park, Ol Pejeta, Lolldaigas, Solio, and Ngare Ndare Forest.
