Masai Mara Horseback Riding Safari 2 Hours

Masai Mara Horseback Riding Safari 2 hours are offered in surrounding areas of the larger Maasai Mara region which includes private conservancies and game ranches. Horse riding Safaris in Masai Mara are not permitted right inside the main Masai Mara Game Reserve but on the fringe of the Reserve in Olerai Conservancy – a private 5000-acre conservancy. Here you’ll experience truly natural Africa as it has been since the beginning of time. 

Imagine riding a horse as Impalas leap and gazelles graze around you. Giraffes bow their long necks towards the acacia leaves. Elephants raise their heads and watch impassively as you pass. A horse safari is like no other experience.  You move freely amongst the animals as if you’re one of them. High on a horse, you ride through a herd of eland or spot a lonely Topi atop a termite mound. You feel the sun-warmed breeze on your face, see the grasses rippling beneath you, and hear birdsong trilling in the trees. Every ride is different.

The Maasai Mara, voted Africa’s leading national park six years running, has an extraordinary variety of wildlife including all the ‘big five’. Known for the annual Great Migration when vast herds of wildebeest pour across the plains and plunge through the rivers, the Mara has a huge variety of animals and birds at all times of the year. There are two sessions for the horse riding safari, each session is 2 hours. The 2 hours Morning Horseback Riding from 0730 Hours – 0930 Hours ends with a bush breakfast out on the plains of the Mara, hopefully surrounded by wildlife! This means you will be collected from your camp/lodge 45 mins to 1 hour prior to the start of the experience, depending on where your camp/lodge is located from the stables. The 2 hours Afternoon Horseback Riding 1530 Hours – 1730 Hours ends with a sundowner out on the plains of the Mara, hopefully, surrounded by wildlife!

Booking the Horse Riding Safari: Please send us your preferred date which has to be at the earliest, the second day of your stay in Masai Mara. We need to know where in Masai Mara you will be staying the night before, so as to check if a timely transfer is possible to the stables. Basic riding ability is a pre-requisite for fully enjoying a Horseback tour in Masai Mara or other locations in Kenya where such safaris are offered including Laikipia, Amboseli, Mount Kenya, and Lake Naivasha area.

Price for Horse Riding Safari: The rates are 250 US Dollars per person for two hours and this includes breakfast/sundowner out on the plains of the Mara, respectively. The horse riding safaris take place at Olerai Conservancy. During the ride, you will be accompanied by an English/ Spanish trail saddles ranger for general security within the conservancy. You will also be provided with well-chosen, fitted, and maintained protective gear for your safety.

Masai Mara Horseback Riding Safari 2 Hours is normally done in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, one of the world’s most famous wildlife areas, not only for the annual migration but also for its vibrant habitat.  

Olerai Conservancy – over 5,000 acres located in the Greater Masai Mara region is where clients go to enjoy horse-ride among plains-game and occasional predators resting among the shrubs shades and NOT the main game reserve.  There is plenty of plains game among others: eland, giraffes, impalas, elephants, lions, and even currently resident Leopard.

Every day is a new experience and can only be enjoyed in real time. The horse rides go out in the mornings and afternoons and end with a breakfast/sundowner out on the plains of the Mara, hopefully, surrounded by wildlife!

Hotels, lodges, and camps that are close to and easily access the stables for the horse experience include Lerai Safari Camp just 5 minutes away from the stables. Other camps include Talek Bush Camp, Mara Duma Bush Camp, Mara Maisha Camp, Mara Duma Bush Camp, Olare Mara Kempinski, Talek Olkinyei Camp, and Crocodile Camp-Masai Mara.

There are currently keeping 8 horses, which are of different breeds, and temperaments, and therefore provide a variety of riding experiences. We do provide English and Spanish trail saddles for our horse safaris with experienced guides & armed Maasai rangers for general security within the conservancy.

* Transport: In case you do not have your own vehicle, we provide transport from other camps/Lodges a round trip transport in our 4×4 vehicle at an extra cost of 150 US Dollars per vehicle within a 60-minute radius to the stables at Olerai Safari Camp in Olerai conservancy
* Beginners are welcome for a relaxed ride around. Only riders of the same skill level will be mixed unless family groups or friends. Weight limit of 90kg, Maximum 4 riders plus lead guide and backup guide. kids up to 12 can be taken on a lead rein around the camp
