The Hot Air Balloon climbs as high as 100m to 1000m above the park’s scenic savanna-covered landscapes inhabited by the big 5 – namely, elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and buffaloes – and other vast species of wildlife. This balloon safari experience includes a bush breakfast and post-flight celebrations for the morning flights while the afternoon flights include champagne popping and post-flight celebrations. This adventure is one of the unbeaten ways of exploring the natural beauty of Rwanda’s only savannah-dominated National Park (Akagera) while taking in the magnificent views of the peninsulas, Hills, and scenic views of the Lakes with wildlife species.
From the take-off point at Kayitaba (which is only a 5-minute drive from the southern gate), participants are first briefed on the activity they are about to enjoy. Make sure to converge by 5:00 am to start the balloon flight at Akagera National Park, although the time can be adjusted according to the prevailing weather conditions. The briefing is mainly on the safety guidelines to be followed and is done by the flying crew. Balloon flights in Akagera National are a must-do tourist activity for adventure-lovers in Akagera National Park. Thanks to the favorable weather conditions, panoramic sceneries, and wildlife species, guests are provided a rare glimpse of the otherworldly ancient landscape. After the briefing, get to see how the balloon is powered by hot and cold inflammation.
As you enjoy a cup of coffee and pastries, the experienced Pilot will be inflating the hot air balloon and you are provided the opportunity to take photos of the process. Later, embark on the basket for the adventure that will allow you to soar through the different landscapes and relish the jaw-dropping views of the Protected Area. Enjoy views of the scenic Lakes that include Rwanda’s second largest Lake (Lake Ihema), different wildlife species such as Masai giraffes, Cape buffaloes, giant elands, African bush elephants, Defassa waterbucks, common warthogs, Rhinos, and many others.

Arrival to Take Off Area
Your experience starts with the arrival to the take-off area which is located at Kayitaba after a 5-minute drive from the South Entrance gate of Akagera National Park.
We would like you to be present at the take-off area at 5:15 am (this time will be adjusted depending on sunrise time). Our team greets you at the take-off area and gives you information while you watch the preparation of the hot air balloon.
Cold and Hot Inflammation of Balloon
When you are enjoying early morning coffee and snacks our experienced pilots start to inflate the balloon which allows you to take perfect photos.
Flight
Then guests are invited to the basket and the flight starts. During the flight, guests experience the serenity of the flight together with an amazing view of Akagera National Park. While watching the sunrise over Lake Ihema guests enjoy spotting different animals from the sky.

* Minimum passenger requirement for take-off is 2 guests
* Children between 6-12 years old receive a 50% discount (applicable to commission as well).
* If there is a cancellation due to weather conditions fee will be refunded. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before flight cancellation after that 50% refund
* There is only one flight per day which will be performed during sunrise. Flight duration is 45 minutes and may vary depending on weather conditions. The whole operation takes between 2-3 hours (can be adjusted depending on guest schedule). We have a permit for early entry to park for our guests.
