A Hot Air Balloon Safari in Rwanda is a must-do activity in East Africa! Our early morning Hot Air Balloon Safari includes a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate before departure. In Rwanda, we operate two hot air balloons in Akagera National Park each accommodating 4 to 6 guests.
The Hot Air Balloon climbs as high as 100m to 1000m above the park’s scenic savanna-covered landscapes inhabited by the big 5 – namely, elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and buffaloes – and other vast species of wildlife.
Arrival to Take Off Area
Your experience starts with the arrival to take-off area which is located at Kayitaba after a 5-minute drive from the South Entrance gate of Akagera National Park.
We would like you to be present at the take-off area at 5:15 am (this time will be adjusted depending on sunrise time). Our team greets you at the take-off area and gives you information while you watch the preparation of the hot air balloon.
Cold and Hot Inflammation of Balloon
When you are enjoying early morning coffee and snack our experienced pilots start to inflate the balloon which gives you the opportunity to take perfect photos.
Flight
Then guests are invited to the basket and the flight starts. During the flight, guests experience the serenity of the flight together with an amazing view of Akagera National Park. While watching the sunrise over Lake Ihema guests enjoy spotting different animals from the sky.

* Minimum passenger requirement for take-off is 2 guests
* Children between 6-12 years old receive a 50% discount (applicable to commission as well).
* If there is a cancellation due to weather conditions fee will be refunded. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before flight cancellation after that 50% refund
* There is only one flight per day which will be performed during sunrise. Flight duration is 45 minutes and may vary depending on weather conditions. The whole operation takes between 2-3 hours (can be adjusted depending on guest schedule). We have a permit for early entry to park for our guests.
