Sanctuary Farm Lake Naivasha 3 Days 2 Nights Tour

This is a 3-day Sanctuary Farm in Naivasha road safari that begins and ends in Nairobi. The tour includes trekking Mt Longonot, cycling in Hell’s Gate, and spotting wild game on horseback at Sanctuary Farm.

Depart from Nairobi our road safari begins with a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park. Activities in Hell’s Gate include walking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching, trekking through the gorge amongst the geysers, etc. Later you enjoy a picnic lunch, then in mid-afternoon depart for your accommodation at Sanctuary Farm House on Lake Naivasha for a well-earned hot shower and a cold drink.

On Day 2 of the tour, you visit Sanctuary Farm, where you will meet your horse-riding guides who will give you a safety briefing and get you kitted up and ready to mount your horse.

On horseback, you will explore Sanctuary Farm and enjoy riding amongst the wild game including giraffe, wildebeest, impala, zebra, Thompson and Grants Gazelle, Dik-dik, Hippo, and buffalo as well as an extraordinarily concentrated variety of birdlife. Later return to your accommodation in Naivasha for dinner and overnight.

There are no predators in the areas, and because the horses and wildlife live together, you can have close wildlife encounters while riding. This horse-riding safari is suitable for experienced riders or those with minimal or no riding experience.

The guides and horses are well-trained, and you will receive brief training before your safari on the basics of controlling your horse. Basically, you will only go at a pace that you feel comfortable with. Enjoy lunch before heading along to Lake Olodian for an hour-long boat ride where you can view flamingos, hippos, African Fish-eagle, and other birdlife.

On Day 3 of your tour, we visit Mt Longonot for a hiking trip. Later depart Mt Longonot and drive back to Nairobi. The tour includes transport to/ from Nairobi, park entry fees, 2-night accommodation at Sanctuary Farm House, meals while on safari, and activities such as bike hire, walking guide, boat ride, and horse riding.

Remember to carry with you a sunhat, sunscreen, insect repellent, warm fleece for cool evenings, a torch, a camera, and binoculars.

Sanctuary Farm Naivasha Highlights | What to Do and See

Sanctuary Farm Naivasha guided walk: a gourmet lunch on the verandah of The Club House Cafe, and then a boat ride where you will see hippos, (python if you are lucky), and a myriad of birdlife with expert guides. Back to The Club House Cafe for afternoon tea, homemade biscuits, and cake before heading back to your hotel in Nairobi

Boat Rides: A boat ride is an opportunity to get closer to rafts of hippos, watch fish eagles darting for fish, and experience the lake from the water.

Crater Lake: This is a tiny jade-green Crater Lake. There are many trails, including one for hikers along the steep but diminutive crater rim, 40 km from Sanctuary farm on a rough road.

Aberdare National Park: Visitors can indulge in trout fishing, walking, picnics, and bird watching – there are over 250 species. An hour’s drive on the good tarmac to begin with, and then on a rather bad murram road thereafter.

Crescent Island: Crescent Island is a stunning location within walking distance of the farm, elevated with magnificent 360-degree views across the lake. Crescent Island is linked to Sanctuary Farm by a causeway. No vehicles are permitted on the island, and walks are guided.

Mt Longonot National Park: A trail runs from the park entrance up to the crater rim and continues in a loop encircling the crater. The whole tour is 8-9km long, but quite steep, so the round trip takes around five hours of hiking. Mt Longonot National Park is a 20-minute drive from the farm on a good tarmac road, which then turns into a dirt road.

Golf at the Great Rift Valley Lodge: Voted the leading golf resort in Kenya. 40 km away from the farm on a rough road.

Hells Gate National Park: A small national park known for its volcanic scenery. There is a dramatic little gorge, which is great fun to scramble down and follow the stream from the splashing hot springs.

One can rock climb, cycle, ride, walk, and drive in the park. Rock climbing instructors and ropes, etc., can be arranged at the gate, as can bicycle hire.

Nakuru National Park is best known for its myriad fuchsia-pink flamingos nesting along the shores of the alkaline lake and feeding on the abundant algae that thrive in the warm waters.

Also of interest are the Rothschild giraffe, black and white rhino, lion, cheetah, and leopard, which are also often seen within the park. An hour’s drive on a good tarmac road.

Tennis, Swimming, Gym, and Spa: These are available at Sopa Lodge 5 km away and Enashipai 5km away.
