Tarangire National Park

Starting and ending in Arusha, Tanzania, this affordable Tarangire National Park Tanzania Safari 3 Days 2 Nights is ideal for travelers with a limited time and budget in East Africa! The tour travels to Tarangire National Park, home to one of Tanzania’s largest elephant populations and considered one of the most beautiful game reserves in Tanzania.

Tarangire  is famous for its abundance of Elephants – herds of up to 300 Elephants, tree climbing Lions, Leopards and Pythons, huge number of baobab trees and termite mounds dotting its hills and highest number of breeding bird species in any habitat on earth.

Beginning from Arusha, the tour travels southwest to Tarangire National Park. Located slightly off the main safari route, Tarangire is located 118 kilometers (75 miles) southwest of Arusha.

The Park derives its name from the Tarangire River which crosses at its center. Tarangire hosts a good variety of predators in sizeable populations. Frequent predator sightings include Lion, Leopard and spotted Hyena. Cheetahs are sometimes sighted in the southern region of the park and wild dogs have been seen on rare occasions.

We spend mid-morning and the afternoon enjoying superb game viewing in the park followed by our first night at the camp/ lodge under African stars.  Accommodation options in Tarangire include Oliver’s Camp Tarangire, Tarangire Treetops, Chem Chem Safari Lodge, Tarangire Sopa Lodge, Maramboi Tented Camp and Lake Burunge Tented Camp.

Day two of our safari we get up early and spend the full day on morning and afternoon game drives. Elephants are common and can be sighted year-round. There are about 2500 Elephants in the larger Tarangire ecosystem of 20 000 km².

Tarangire is also home to lots of Zebras and Wildebeest, as well as plenty of Giraffes, Buffalos, Waterbucks, Elands and Impalas. A variety of other antelope species are also found in the park, including greater and lesser Kudu, Thompson’s Gazelle, Hartebeest and Reedbuck.

The park is the only place in Tanzania where unusual gerenuk with its long neck and fringe-eared oryx, are regularly spotted. The swamp areas of Tarangire remain relatively green throughout the year, attracting over 550 bird species.

We spend another night at our camp/ lodge in Tarangire National Park.  On day three which is our last day on safari, we have a late breakfast before leaving Tarangire with a game drive en-route as we return to Arusha where we started.
