Lake Nakuru National Park Day Safari Itinerary
The tour takes you on game viewing in Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its rich birdlife and diverse wildlife, including black and white rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park is situated approximately 164 km from Nairobi, a two-hour drive from Nairobi city. Your safari day tour begins with a transfer from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park, followed by an exhilarating game drive that lasts approximately two to three hours.
After lunch, we continue searching for wildlife found in Lake Nakuru Park, and later, at about 1630 hours, we depart and drive back to Nairobi. Arriving back at 1900 hours, you are transferred to your residence, bringing your 1-day Safari adventure to an end.
While the full Big Five don’t call Nakuru ‘home’, four of them do (lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo). Only the elephants don’t roam here, but expect to see rhinos (black and white), Rothschild giraffes, cape buffaloes, olive baboons, impalas, waterbucks, hippos, colobus monkeys, spotted hyenas, zebras, gazelles, leopards, lions, and pythons, among others.
Lake Nakuru is a treat for birdwatchers, with 400 species of birds. Spend an hour with your binoculars and you’re likely to see a plethora of water birds. These include flamingos, herons, pelicans, storks, the iconic African fish eagle, the Bateleur eagle, vultures, starlings, woodpeckers, weavers, bee-eaters, sparrows, and others.

Lake Nakuru National Park Day Tour is a 1 Day Safari to Lake Nakuru National Park, renowned for excellent wildlife viewing. Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s two Premium Parks and is a bird lover’s paradise.
Originally protected as a bird sanctuary, this park is home to over 400 bird species, including five globally threatened species, and serves as an essential stop on the African-Eurasian Migratory Flyway. This park was also the first national Rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of black rhinos.
The park is located 156 km northwest of Nairobi. The main gate is 4 km from Nakuru town centre. Lake Nakuru National Park Day Tour departs in the early morning from your hotel/residence. The driving time from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park is 3 Hours.
Our tour takes the Nairobi-Nakuru highway. On the way to Nakuru, you will have a great view of the Rift Valley and the scenery! A stop at a viewpoint gives us great opportunities to take pictures of the Great Rift Valley and spectacular views of the volcanoes Suswa and Longonot.
Once at the park, we proceed on a game drive where you are guaranteed to see: White Rhinos, African Buffaloes, Rothschild Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, Olive Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, and Waterbucks. The park is a bird sanctuary and features a variety of water birds, including Yellow-billed Pelicans, Marabou Storks, Hamerkop, and Fish Eagles.
Common in the park: Hyenas, Jackals, Lesser Flamingos, Hippo, and Pythons. If you are lucky, you may see: Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Wild Dogs, Colobus Monkeys, Cheetahs, etc. In addition to its 400 species of birds, Lake Nakuru National Park is home to over 50 mammal species and more than 500 species of flora.
This park is famous for the flocks of Greater and Lesser Flamingos that gather around the lake, sometimes with as many as 2 million! We have our lunch boxes at the Baboon Cliff viewpoint as we enjoy views of Lake Nakuru.
Later, we proceed on another game drive as we exit the park and drive back to Nairobi, arriving at 1830 Hours.
