4 Day fly-in safari to Angama Mara Lodge Itinerary 

Day 1: Arrival & First Game Drive

0700 Hours – 0800 Hours: Arrive at Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL) or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with a private meet-and-assist transfer to Wilson Airport.
0900 Hours – 1000 Hours: Board the morning scheduled or private charter flight (approx. 45 to 55 minutes) heading to the Maasai Mara / Angama private airfield or nearby Kichwa Tembo airstrip.
1045 Hours – 1130 Hours: Land at the airstrip, where your Angama Mara guide welcomes you for a short 10-minute transfer or walk up to the lodge perched on the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
1200 Hours – 1400 Hours: Check into your tented suite and enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the Mara Triangle
1530 Hours – 1830 Hours: Head out for your first late-afternoon game drive into the Mara Triangle to spot resident big cats, elephants, and plains game
1900 Hours onwards: Return to camp for sundowners around the fire pit followed by a multi-course dinner

Day 2: Full-Day Exploration of the Mara Triangle

0545 Hours – 0615 Hours: Wake-up call with hot coffee, tea, and pastries delivered to your suite or main lodge area
0630 Hours – 0930 Hours: Dawn game drive when predators (lions, leopards, hyenas) are most active in the cool morning air
0930 Hours – 1030 Hours: Bush breakfast set up out on the open plains or a return to the lodge for a full hot breakfast
1030 Hours – 1530 Hours: Midday leisure time at the lodge (relax by the swimming pool, visit the beating-heart craft studio, or read) or opt for a full-day game drive with a packed picnic lunch down by the Mara River
1530 Hours – 1830 Hours: Afternoon game drive focusing on river crossings (seasonal July–October) or tracking elephant herds and giraffe corridors
1900 Hours onwards: Dinner at the lodge or a private bush boma dinner experience under the stars.

Day 3: Conservancy or Cultural Experience & Flexibility

0630 Hours – 0930 Hours: Morning game drive or a guided nature/bush walk accompanied by an armed ranger and Maasai naturalist
1000 Hours – 1130 Hours: Breakfast at the lodge, followed by relaxation time. Optional add-on: Hot-air balloon safari at dawn followed by a champagne bush breakfast
1400 Hours – 1600 Hours: Cultural visit to a local Maasai village to interact with community elders and learn about traditional beadwork and customs
1630 Hours – 1830 Hours: Golden-hour afternoon game drive or sundowner drinks on the escarpment edge
1900 Hours onwards: Farewell dinner celebrating your last night in the Mara

Day 4: Final Morning Drive & Return Flight to Nairobi

0600 Hours – 0800 Hours: Quick final sunrise game drive or sleep in and enjoy a relaxed breakfast with panoramic views
0830 Hours – 0930 Hours: Check-out and short transfer from the lodge back to the local Maasai Mara airstrip
1000 Hours – 1100 Hours: Board your return domestic flight to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport
1145 Hours – 1215 Hours: Arrive at Wilson Airport, where a private driver meets you for your onward international connection at JKIA or drop-off at your Nairobi hotel

Day 1: Nairobi – Fly to the Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, you are whisked away to Kenya’s crown jewel: the famed Masai Mara. A 45-minute flight brings us to the Angama Mara’s private airfield, where a warm Swahili welcome awaits you.

A five-minute drive to camp, then amble out onto our deck and take in that breathtaking view of the Mara below. Enjoy a delicious lunch with a chilled Tusker or glass of chardonnay, and then it’s time to settle into your tent.

While you enjoy lunch, chat with your camp manager about everything Angama offers to plan your stay to the fullest. Over the next five days, be sure to include a visit to the Photographic Studio for any assistance you might need with your camera.

Meet your guide, who will be waiting at your private safari vehicle, and begin your exploration of the Mara Triangle and the magnificent creatures that call it home. Return to the lodge in time to toast the sunset over the Great Rift Valley, a dawa in hand. The perfect moment to recount your day.

After dinner, tuck into bed. Close the mesh sliding doors but leave the glass sliding doors open – the African night chorus is not to be missed. P.S. And don’t forget to leave the blinds up to watch the stars falling at your feet.

Day 2: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve

A gentle early morning wake-up to a cappuccino and freshly baked Maasai honey biscuits placed discreetly by your butler in the lobby of your tent; prepare to head out for a full day in the Mara.

Descending Angama Mara’s private road, you will arrive at the heart of the action as the sun breaks the horizon, surrounded by more animals than you could imagine.

The vast grasslands dotted with lone desert date trees are home to abundant herds as well as Africa’s Big Five –lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino and buffalo. Enjoy a picnic breakfast somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and slowly make your way to the Tanzanian border where the Mara meets the Serengeti without a soul in sight.

This secret corner of the Mara Triangle is all yours. Then, of course, it is time for Picnic #2 -what could be better than lunch under a lone tree with only elephants as a company?

After an exciting day out, come back to the sundowner boma, and sip on a gin and tonic while enjoying a sunset Maasai warrior performance. Join in on this time-honored celebration of song and dance.

Day 3: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve

This morning, enjoy a lie-in while watching hot-air balloons gently float past at eye level from our 300-meter-high vantage point on the escarpment. If you feel like stretching your legs, join one of our Maasai naturalist guides and discover the Great Rift Valley on foot.

This is your opportunity to learn more about Maasai culture as you wander through birdsong-filled forests and wide-open landscapes. Breakfast is served back at the lodge -be sure to ask about the Chef’s Special. Then take a stroll back to your tent for a pampering massage on your private deck.

Wander through our Shamba (kitchen garden), picking and tasting along the way. Afterward, enjoy a private harvest-to-fork lunch under the shady moth trees. We wash and prepare the leaves and vegetables you foraged for the freshest salads imaginable, paired with crusty bread, local cheese, and chilled rosé wine.

Spend the afternoon relaxing in the Shamba, or take a slow afternoon safari. And the perfect end to this relaxing day? A nightcap by the campfire, under a million stars.

Day 4: Masai Mara – Fly to Nairobi – Depart

As this is your final day, you wouldn’t want to miss the sun rising from the foot of your bed. Take one last game drive down into the Mara Triangle, and leave camp as early as possible to be back in time for breakfast. After a delicious breakfast, slowly start getting ready for your departure.
