This 5-day safari begins and ends in Nairobi, and encompasses a round trip by road through three of Kenya’s iconic and game-rich areas: Samburu, Nakuru, and the Masai Mara.
Setting off on our 5-day Kenya Wildlife Safari, the first stop is Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya. Samburu has a permanent water supply, resulting in spectacular birdlife, including species endemic to this area of Kenya.
This region of Kenya is home to the uncommon Grevy’s zebra with huge, furry ears, the gerenuk antelope that stands on its hind legs to feed, Somali ostriches with distinct blue legs, and the shy Oryx.
Elephants and crocodiles are guaranteed sightings, and lions, hippos, and giraffes are also found in the reserve. Leopard sightings are also a special feature here. The Samburu area is also home to interesting people with a rich heritage, making for a colorful cultural experience.
Continue to Nakuru National Park, home to Kenya’s largest population of rhinos (both white and black rhinos). While the full Big Five don’t call Nakuru ‘home’, four of them do. Only the elephants don’t roam here, as the park is too small to support them.
Expect to see Rothschild’s giraffes, zebras, hippos, many antelope, including impalas and waterbucks, plenty of baboons and monkeys, and more. This Kenyan game park has retained its reputation as an ornithologist’s delight, with more than 400 bird species.
Bird species include the Great White Pelican, African Spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork, Lesser, Greater Flamingo, and Long-crested Eagle.
Explore the Great Rift Valley before moving on to the famed Masai Mara National Reserve, renowned for its location in the heart of the Big 5 country. The next two days are spent embarking on exhilarating game-viewing drives in the Masai Mara.
Wherever you go in the Mara Reserve, you will see an abundance of wildlife, such as Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impala, hartebeests, and wildebeest. elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and hippos.
It is common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but are still reasonably common.
Then we return to bustling Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, arriving in the afternoon. This 5 Days 4 Nights Kenya Safari Samburu Nakuru Masai Mara ends upon arrival in Nairobi.
