6 Day Kenya Safari Mt Kenya Safari Club Olpejeta Nakuru & Masai Mara
This action-packed 6-day itinerary begins and ends in Nairobi, and encompasses a round trip by road through three of Kenya’s iconic and game-rich areas: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve, plus a stay at the luxurious Mount Kenya Safari Club in Nanyuki.
The safari begins with an adventure at the lovely Mount Kenya Safari Club on the slopes of the majestic Mount Kenya. Then you move to Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters Conservancy – a 70,000-acre private ranch which offers excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities, then watch millions of flamingos in Lake Nakuru National Park, and finally track the Big Five in world-famous Masai Mara National Park.
The trip begins from Nairobi and travels north to the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club located in Nanyuki. Originally the retreat of movie star and Club founder, William Holden, the Club’s illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby.
With magnificent views of majestic Mount Kenya, the club is set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens, offering a unique blend of comfort, relaxation, and adventure. There are many recreational activities available: horseback riding, golf, croquet, a putting green, a bowling green, table tennis, swimming, a beauty salon, an animal orphanage, and much more.
Next, we visit the Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters Conservancy – a 70,000-acre private ranch with magnificent views across the plains to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. The Conservancy has over 10000 large mammals, and it is the only park where the Big Five and chimpanzees can be seen.
It is also home to the fastest-growing rhino population in Africa. There are southern white rhinos, about 80 endangered black rhinos, and in a special sanctuary, there are two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos.
Activities here include a visit to the Endangered Species Boma, a must-see on any trip to Ol Pejeta; feeding Baraka, a blind rhino born in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy; visiting the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary, home to 40 or so chimpanzees; and game drives.
Continue to Lake Nakuru, one of the Great Rift Valley’s most famous soda lakes and a genuine ornithologist’s paradise. When conditions are right, between one and two million lesser and greater flamingos feed around the shores of the shallow lake, which, together with tens of thousands of other water birds, forms a species list of around 400 birds.
Game viewing is also good as the park is home to warthog, baboon, waterbuck, and large numbers of impala. Slightly shyer residents include buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffe, eland, the occasional leopard, and both black and white rhinos. A herd of hippos has its territory in the northern part of the lake.
You then finish with Kenya’s showpiece, the Masai Mara. The Mara is best known for its annual Wildebeest Migration and remains an excellent wildlife destination year-round. You have time for morning and afternoon game drives in search of big cats, wild dogs, and heavyweight animals such as elephants, rhinos, and buffalo.
