Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Nairobi – Fly to Amboseli National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Nairobi Wilson airport for a flight to Amboseli National Park. On arrival at Amboseli airstrip, you are met and transferred to Porini Amboseli Camp with A game drive en route for check-in and lunch.

After lunch relaxes before taking an afternoon game drive. Amboseli is a small park and the range of animals is not as extensive as that of other parks in Kenya but streams from Kilimanjaro surface in the centre of Amboseli, creating wetlands that support a rich diversity of wildlife and most of the classic big mammals are there.

The species list includes lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, and cheetah, and bird watchers will be happy with a list that tops 300 species.

Overnight Accommodation: Porini Amboseli Camp

Day 2: Discover Amboseli National Park

Enjoy full-day game drives in Amboseli. All the main species of African fauna live in this park. According to the season and the hour of the day, they can either be spotted in the shade of acacia trees, or thorny bushes, in the open plains, or in the mud of the marshes, on the background of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Day 3: Amboseli  – Fly to Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, you will be transferred in the morning to the airstrip for a flight via Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve. On arrival at the airstrip, you are met and transferred to your camp.

After lunch game drive until sunset in the reserve. Samburu’s savannahs and forests make for a diverse big-game country. Home to all the big cats, it’s especially good for leopards as well as providing a haven for super-rare wild dogs and large numbers of elephants.

The 450 bird species will delight birders while it’s also the best destination for wildlife enthusiasts who want to see unusual animals that don’t occur in Kenya’s more well-known reserves. Top of the list is the ‘Samburu Big 5’ – Grevy’s zebra; the long-necked gerenuk; the reticulated giraffe; the besia oryx; and the Somali ostrich.

Day 4: Explore Samburu National Reserve

Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the river from our tent’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand.

Before the dew is off the grass, we’re off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands.

And so the day is spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cosy camp. Samburu’s game viewing is famously first-class and there are adventure activities and fascinating cultural interactions too.

The Masai Mara National Reserve and its neighbouring conservancies form Kenya’s flagship conservation area and one of the top safari destinations in Africa. Its wide-open plains provide a sanctuary for an abundance of animals like elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffes, hyenas, and Mara’s famous big cats: lion, leopard, and cheetah.

And from about June to November every year, the Mara is a much-welcomed pit stop for unending masses of wildebeest that follow the rains on their death-defying, 2,900-kilometre (1 800-mile) circular journey.
