Encounter Mara Safari Camp

Encounter Mara Safari Camp is a traditional-style luxury safari camp situated on the banks of the Olmorijio River in the private 50,000 acres of Naboisho Conservancy, northeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The camp is situated on the edge of an open plain in a forest of acacia trees.

The camp is located 260 km from Nairobi, driving time takes about 5 hours and 1 hour by air from Wilson Airport Nairobi. Mara River is 40 km away from camp while Mara Ole Seki’s airstrip is a 45-minute drive away.

Mara Naboisho Conservancy has its own ‘secret’ version of the Masai Mara Great Migration. The Loita Migration sees thousands of wildebeests and zebras traveling through the conservancy to Loita Plains.  The conservancy has a higher density of wildlife and there are a particularly high number of lions you’ll also spot other animals like giraffes, elephants, and zebras. 

Encounter Mara Safari Camp offers 10 spacious and comfortable tents (including 1 family tent and 2 triples), all with en suite bathrooms with double vanity basins, flushing toilets, and hot-water bucket showers. All tents have seating areas and come with an in-room lockable box, closet, desk, and private veranda with a sitting area, lounger, and hammock.

Families with children over the age of 5 are welcome to this camp. There are 2 tents specifically for families, plus twin tents for kids over 12 years. There are some child-friendly activities available at Encounter Mara e.g. bow-and-arrow shooting with Maasai, starting a campfire with elephant dung and sticks, educational bush walks around camp, etc.

The camp is designed to be as open as possible, so guests can take in the sights and sounds of the Mara during meals or afternoon siestas.

Meals are served in the dining tent as well as outside in the fresh air whenever the weather allows.  Picnic-style breakfasts are served out in the bush while sun-downers and snacks are served as the sunset lights up the sky.

From the camp’s outdoor viewing deck, guests can watch zebras amble to the nearby salt lick, see a giraffe strut right past camp, glimpse a mongoose running down the path right in front of you or even spot a cheetah prowling the plains. Over sundowners around the campfire, listen for lions calling to each other as they start their night of hunting.
