Instinct of the Mara Camp

The instinct of the Mara is a luxury safari lodge set in Olderkesi Conservancy southeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The camp was previously known as Impiripiri Camp, Muthaiga Safari Camp, and Black Leopard Retreat.  The camp is located approximately 320 km southwest of Nairobi, 45 Minutes away by air from Nairobi Wilson Airport, and 6 hours by road.

The instinct of Mara Camp has 7 Premium Tented Suites and 2 Luxury Tented Suites furnished with large double beds, hand-woven rugs, safari chests, and writing desks. Each has a wooden veranda overlooking the savannah. The 2 luxury tented suites have 2 en-suite bedrooms and a living room adorned with local fabrics and craftwork.

The Olderkesi area is home to one of the largest packs of wild dogs in the Mara ecosystem. While enjoying a drink on your patio, expect frequent visitors like lions, wild dogs, wildebeest, greater kudu, and buffalo.

The dining tent, complete with traditional safari equipment and Swahili ornaments, opens onto a savannah and a waterhole often visited by wildlife. This eco-friendly campus solar and wind energy has initiated many wildlife and community preservation projects.

The camp is built on land leased from the Maasai and its local staff is happy to introduce guests to their culture and traditions. Activities are arranged to each guest’s preference, each day tailor-made. Options include: Game drives (day and night) are in custom-built 4×4 vehicles with open roof hatches and sides with each guest guaranteed a window seat.

Guests are welcome to visit local villages and schools and to attend the weekly Maasai market,  the waterfall is a stunning location with incredible views, an exciting hike, and the opportunity to swim at a stunning spot underneath the falls, safari bushwalks in the surrounding area and sundowners on the nearby hills offer the most splendid view of Maasai land

Other activities include bird watching around the camp or on guided ornithological walks, cultural visits to the local Maasai villages (market, homes, and schools), and balloon safaris (at additional cost).
