Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club

This is a 6-day low-cost safari by road covering many of Kenya’s key wildlife areas including Aberdare National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park and the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.

The tour also include a stay at the luxurious Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club in Nanyuki. Travel is by private vehicle just for your group (minimum 2 people) and with an expert driver-guide. Flexible departures (any day).

Starting from Nairobi, this 4×4 safari begins with a road trip to the Aberdare National Park  which is part of the Aberdare Mountain Range in central Kenya. Animals that can be found on safari in Aberdare National Park include elephant, buffalo, the Black Rhino, leopard, baboon, black and white Colobus monkey and Sykes monkey.

Rarer sightings include those of lions, the golden cat and the bongo – an elusive antelope that lives in the bamboo forest. Bird-watching is very good here with over 250 species of birds in the park.

Within the park, we stay at the Treetops Lodge or the Ark, the latter being a lodge built in the shape of Noah’s Ark. These provide night game viewing in the Salient area of the Park with good sightings of elephant, buffalo, lion and rhino which are attracted to the salt-licks and waterholes each evening.

The safari continues to the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club with magnificent views of majestic Mount Kenya. The club is set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens, offering a unique blend of comfort, relaxation and adventure.

We spend time at the Club enjoying many recreational activities available such as horseback riding, golf, croquet, a putting green, a bowling green, table tennis, swimming, a beauty salon, an animal orphanage and much more.

Continue by road to Lake Naivasha – one of Kenya’s beautiful lakes of the Great Rift Valley, and enjoy a boat ride plus a visit to Crescent Island – a wildlife sanctuary on the eastern shores of the Lake and is home to hippo, giraffe, zebra, impala and many interesting water birds.

We finish our safari with a 2 night stay in Masai Mara National Reserve, in southwest of Kenya. Masai Mara safari delivers many attractions, as the reserve is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game, including the more than two million wildebeest, zebras and other antelopes that make up the famous Great Migration.

The reserve wildlife includes elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah alongside the migratory wildebeest and zebra. Leopards are frequently encountered; endangered black rhino hide in the dense thickets and large rafts of hippo and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River. The park is also home to over 450 bird species.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to the Aberdare National Park

Depart Nairobi after breakfast. Our destination today is the Aberdare National Park. We travel overland through plantations of coffee and tea to The Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill.

After lunch and tea/coffee or Hot chocolate, set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet.

This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: giant forest hog, bush pig, tree hyrax, large spotted genet, and the elusive bongo.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels — and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy.

You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favorite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a Leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.

Day 2: Aberdare  – Drive to Mount Kenya Safari Club

This morning we drive to the magnificent Mount Kenya Safari Club nestled in the foothills of snow-capped Mount Kenya. Its sprawling colonial design was influenced by the late actor William Holden, who founded the Club in 1959 with two of his friends.

His love for Africa led him to make Kenya his second home for over twenty-five years. The club has over the years attracted legions of internationally renowned members and guests from the world of politics, film, and theatre.

Sir Winston Churchill and Lord Mountbatten were members, and enjoyed sojourns at the club, as have legends Clark Gable and John Wayne, and more recent celebrities such as Robert Redford, Sean Connery, and Catherine Deneuve.

You too will receive the star treatment as you settle into your suite or cozy cottage. Pay a visit and do not miss the animal orphanage operated by the William Holden Wildlife Foundation.

Here wildlife foundlings are raised with great care and many are quite tame. It is an opportunity to get close to some wild creatures that despite a struggle have managed to survive.
