7 Day Kenya Safari Tsavo West Amboseli & Masai Mara from Nairobi
This 7-day classic Kenya road safari adventure explores some of the most prolific game-viewing locations in Kenya. Your safari could start from Nairobi or Mombasa and end in Nairobi.
Begin with 2 Nights in Tsavo West National Park, a popular destination with magnificent scenery, Mzima Springs, rich and varied wildlife, and a rhino reserve, before moving to Amboseli National Park, home to famous large tusked elephants and views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro.
Then head to the Masai Mara National Reserve and experience the thrill of tracking Africa’s Big Five and watching millions of wildebeest and zebras during their annual migration crossing the Mara River.
Departing Nairobi by road, we drive for about five hours to reach Tsavo West National Park. Tsavo East and Tsavo West combined to make one of the biggest game reserves in the world, at about 22700 km².
Tsavo is famous for the man-eating lions of Tsavo, which preyed on railway workers in colonial times. Home to Africa’s Big Five – buffaloes, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and the notorious lions – and giraffes, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, and plenty of antelopes.
Continue by road to Amboseli National Park, a scenic park known as one of the best places to get up close to big herds of elephants, making for amazing photos with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. Amboseli National Park hosts a variety of large mammals and birds.
Elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, Maasai giraffe, and buffalo are some of the big game you may see on a game drive. Plains game is prolific and includes gerenuk, fringe-eared oryx, Burchell’s zebra, eland, Coke’s hartebeest, white-bearded wildebeest, common waterbuck, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, and impala.
From Amboseli, we drive to Nairobi for lunch, then continue to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. This is where it happens – one of the most spectacular wildlife shows on earth, the Great Wildebeest Migration. The Big Five and other animals can be seen roaming on the open grasslands scattered with thorn trees.
After 2 nights in the Masai Mara, we drive back to Nairobi and return home with magical memories of all that you have experienced and a plethora of wildlife photographs to share with your friends and family.
