Amboseli Chyulu Hills Lodges Camps Hotels

Amboseli National Park & Chyulu Hills Hotels, lodges, and camps are accommodations located within and near Amboseli National Park and the Chyulu Hills. Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most iconic safari destinations, covering 392 km² in southern Kenya along the border with Tanzania. The park lies within the larger Amboseli ecosystem, with the Chyulu Hills situated to the northeast, forming part of its scenic backdrop.

Nairobi is approximately 240 km away (4–5 hours by road), while short flights from Wilson Airport to Amboseli Airstrip take less than an hour. Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania is also accessible for cross-border itineraries. Amboseli borders Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro National Park, offering spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, rising dramatically above the savannah.

The park is well-known for its large herds of elephants, many of which have been studied and individually identified by the Amboseli Elephant Research Centre. Other wildlife includes lions, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, wildebeest, hyenas, zebras, Thomson’s gazelles, and a wide variety of bird species. While leopards and rhinos are rarely seen in Amboseli, these species can be spotted in other Kenyan parks such as Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Amboseli’s landscapes feature open plains, swamps, acacia woodlands, and seasonal lakes, with the Chyulu Hills offering volcanic peaks, lava flows, and lush green highlands ideal for hiking and horse riding. Cultural visits with the Maasai people are a highlight, offering guests the opportunity to experience their traditions, dances, and crafts.

Popular activities include guided game drives, birdwatching, photography tours, scenic flights over Mount Kilimanjaro, walking safaris, and cultural excursions to Maasai villages.

Amboseli and the Chyulu Hills offer a wide range of accommodations, from luxury safari lodges to budget campsites and self-catering options. These include: AA Lodge Amboseli, Amboseli Bush Camp, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, Amboseli Sopa Lodge, Kibo Safari Camp, Kibo Villa, Kilimanjaro Guest House, Little Amanya Camp, Ol Tukai Lodge, Porini Amboseli Camp, Tawi Lodge, Tortilis Camp, and many others.

Amboseli Chyulu Hills Lodges Camps Hotels Information

We also make reservations for Amboseli Chyulu budget camping, guest houses, bed and breakfast, private home stays and all-inclusive resorts. Amboseli National Park is a top destination for a Kenya Safari. The park is small but a rewarding safari destination in southern Kenya on the border of Tanzania.

Amboseli is a great choice for first-time safari goers or first-timers to Kenya. The park is 39,206 hectares (392 km2; 151 sq miles) in size and allows you to see virtually every aspect in about 2 days and its proximity to Nairobi means you don’t have to follow a long-haul flight with a very long drive or another longish flight.

Short flights between Wilson Airport in Nairobi and the Amboseli airstrip take less than an hour in a light aircraft. While Kilimanjaro is actually across the border in Tanzania, Amboseli has a perfect view of this world’s tallest freestanding mountain, rising an impressive 5 km above the plains.

It’s easy to spot Lions and can occasionally be watched stalking their prey. But you should see masses of bird-life. Other animals include bat-eared foxes (a very rare sighting), giraffe, lion, buffalo, cheetah, and non-migrating wildebeest. Look out for Thomson’s gazelle, Maasai giraffe; Burchell’s or plains zebra; and plenty of spotted hyena (known as ‘spotties’ – there are no brown hyena here).

We can’t guarantee the Big 5 in Amboseli: leopard and rhino are virtually non-existent here. But don’t let that deter you as they are easily found elsewhere in Kenya (Lewa is fantastic for rhino and the Masai Mara for leopard).

Elephants are commonly sighted and many are known by name by the guides because they’ve been studied by researchers at the Amboseli Elephant Research Centre. There are over 1000 elephants in the Park.

Amboseli is also the home of the Maasai people, those tall, proud nomads whose legendary prowess in battle and single-handed acts of bravery in fights with wild animals has spread across the globe.  Perhaps more than any other communities in Kenya the Maasai have learned to live in complete harmony with their environment and the wildlife which surrounds them.

Amboseli hosts a number of the most beautiful hotels and resorts known to the world. Among the best hotels includes: Amboseli Tortilis Camp, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, Campi ya Kanzi, Ol Donyo Lodge, Tawil Lodge among others.
