Lake Mburo National Park is located in Kiruhura District in western Uganda. The park is situated about 30 kilometres (19 miles), by road, east of Mbarara, the largest city in the sub-region.

The park also has a very respectable bird list with around 315 species recorded to date including the shoebill, papyrus yellow warbler, African finfoot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, Carruther’s cisticola, Tabora cisticola, great snipe, Abyssinian ground horn bill and white winged warbler.
