6 Day Kenya Safari Aberdare Bogoria Nakuru & Masai Mara from Nairobi
A memorable 6-day Kenya Private road safari to the Aberdare, Masai Mara, and the African Great Lakes – Nakuru and Bogoria. First, visit Aberdare National Park, with its steep ravines, waterfalls, and peaks where unusual forest-dwelling animals and birds are found.
Then descend into the Great Rift Valley to explore Lake Bogoria – a soda lake that attracts massive seasonal flocks of pink flamingoes. Some call it ‘the new home of the flamingo’ because of the migratory population of up to two million flamingoes that gather here at times.
It is the high salt and mineral content of this pretty lake that attracts huge numbers of flamingos and other birds. Lake Bogoria is also known for its natural hot springs and geysers.
Then we travel to Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its spectacular birdlife, frequent rhino sightings, and tree-climbing lions. This Great Rift Valley lake hosts over 400 different bird species, including the Great White Pelican, Grey-crested Helmet-shrike, African Spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork, and Long-crested Eagle.
Lake Nakuru is sometimes visited by flocks of migratory pink flamingos – an amazing sight when the birds gather. The park is an important wildlife sanctuary for some of Africa’s endangered species, especially black and white rhinos, and Rothschild Giraffes. The game reserve is also home to lions, waterbuck, buffalo, and baboons, which we keep an eye out for on our game drive.
Next, travel to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, the quintessential African landscape, home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara Park, you will see an abundance of wildlife such as Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeests, and wildebeests. Elephants, buffalo, zebras, and hippos are also found in great numbers.
It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common. The ultimate action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August, when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October.
Balloon trips are an outstanding way to see the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost.
Throughout this 6-day Kenya Safari, you stay at top-class safari lodges within the national parks (all meals and game drives included) and travel in a 4×4 safari vehicle.

Beginning and ending in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, this 6-day/5-night overland safari offers an amazing itinerary, with opportunities to explore two of the most famous Rift Valley lakes – Nakuru and Baringo – and take in their fabulous birdlife and a range of wildlife.
The safari also includes two popular parks, Aberdare National Park and the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. Your safari begins with a road trip to the Aberdare National Park, situated about 180 km north of Nairobi, and we stay at either the well-known Tree-Top Lodge or Ark Lodge.
Both lodges overlook a salt lick and a floodlit waterhole, offering the park’s best from-your-chair game viewing. If you want, you can even be alerted at night in the event of a special sighting. The park is home to a rare antelope species – the bongo, an elusive antelope that lives in the bamboo forest.
Other forest species such as elephants, black rhinos, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black-and-white colobus monkeys, buffaloes, warthogs, bushbucks, and leopards are seen regularly, along with around 250 bird species.
From the Aberdare, we drive to Lake Bogoria with a brief stop at Thompson Falls in Nyahururu. Lake Bogoria is popular for its spectacular Flamingo populations; the surrounding bush and grassland are home to several animals.
The Reserve’s herd of rare Greater Kudu makes it unique, and other game to view includes buffalo (rare), zebra, baboon, warthog, caracal, spotted hyena, impala, dik-dik, and many small mammals.
Next, we visit Lake Nakuru National Park – Kenya’s first rhino sanctuary and an important sanctuary for rhinos. The lake also offers you a chance to witness one of the world’s most spectacular wildlife sights: brilliant pink flamingos as far as the eye can see.
Game viewing is also good. It is home to warthog, baboon, waterbuck, endangered Rothschild Giraffe, zebra, and large numbers of impala. Slightly shyer residents include buffalo, eland, the occasional leopard, and hippo.
The tour finishes off with Kenya’s showpiece, the Masai Mara. The Mara is best known for the annual Wildebeest Migration and remains an excellent wildlife destination year-round. You have time for morning and afternoon game drives in search of big cats, wild dogs, and heavyweights such as elephants, rhinos, and buffalo.
