Meru National Park incorporates Bisanadi, Kora, Rahole, and Mwingi National Reserves. Game viewing includes elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, lesser Kudus, duikers, and dik-diks, amongst others.

2-Day Meru National Park Safari from Nairobi Itinerary 

Day 1: Nairobi to Meru National Park
0500 Hours -0600 Hours: Depart from Nairobi early to beat traffic, traveling north through agricultural landscapes with views of Mount Kenya
1200 Hours – 1300 Hours: Arrive at Meru National Park, check into the lodge/camp, and have lunch
1530 Hours – 1600 Hours: Begin the afternoon game drive, exploring the park’s lush rivers, palm groves, and woodlands (including the Tana River and potential visits to Elsa’s Kopje)
1830 Hours – 1900 Hours: Return to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay 

Day 2: Meru National Park to Nairobi 

0600 Hours – 0630 Hours: Early morning game drive to catch predators (lions, leopards) in action and view the sunrise
0830 Hours -0930 Hours: Return to the lodge for a full breakfast
1000 Hours -1100 Hours: Check out and enjoy a final game drive, usually focusing on the Rhino Sanctuary
1200 Hours: Depart for Nairobi
1700 Hours – 1800 Hours: Arrive back in Nairobi

* Meru National Park Game Viewing is excellent and includes four of the “Big Five” – elephants, lions, leopards, and buffalo – as well as cheetahs, antelope, hippos, and crocodiles. The roads are well-graded, and Meru National Park is quieter than most other parks.

* Bird Watching – over 300 species of birds have been recorded within the park, including the Peter’s Finfoot, which inhabits the Murera and Ura Rivers, the Pel’s Fishing Owl, kingfishers, rollers, bee-eaters, starlings, and numerous weavers.

Larger birds include the secretary bird, ostriches, and hornbills. Take a spotter’s guide so that you can identify the many species you will see.

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Meru National Park (Embu Route)

0700 Hours: After an early breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi, we depart by road for Meru National Park, a journey of about 5 hours.

You will enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery and excellent views of snow-capped Mount Kenya in the distance. The road meanders through valleys, especially after Embu town, where you can make several stopovers for sightseeing.

1230 Hours: Enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Meru or Maua town.

1400 Hours: Arrive at Meru National Park, Murera gate, and proceed for a game drive.

The park is home to a large pride of lions, herds of buffalo, and hippos and crocodiles that live in the rivers.

Meru National Park is noted for its fauna and natural beauty.

It has many swamps and rivers lined with palms, as well as mountains and woodlands, and it is the setting for Joy Adamson’s book “Born Free”, which was later made into a successful film.

1830 Hours: Arrive at your camp/ lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Meru National Park – Drive to Nairobi (Nanyuki – Nairobi Route)

0630 Hours: Depart for an early morning game drive.  Game viewing includes elephants, hippos, lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

There are also some rare antelope, including the Lesser Kudu, duiker, and dik-dik, a tiny African antelope that stands just 12 inches high and is notoriously shy.

Meru National Park also has some of Kenya’s largest herds of buffalo, along with hartebeests, giraffes, and gazelles.

0930 Hours: Return to the lodge/ Camp for breakfast.

1100 Hours: Depart for Nairobi with a lunch stopover in Meru town. Enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery en route to Nairobi.

You will see large wheat and French bean plantations in Timau, as well as excellent views of snow-capped Mount Kenya.

1900 Hours: Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your residence/ Hotel
