Mahale National Park like its northerly neighbor Gombe is home to some of the Africa’s last remaining wild chimpanzees, a population of roughly 900, they are habituated to human visitors.

Tracking the chimps of Mahale is a magical experience. The Forest fauna and flora include Angola colobus, red colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys, forest birds, alpine bamboo, montage rain forest etc.

Swim in ice-cold pools up in the mountain waterfalls, take a kayak out for a dawn paddle towards the middle of the lake; drink your morning coffee there and enjoy the sunrise coming up over the mountains.
Go for sundowners on the old wooden dhow, lazily following the shoreline and stopping to fish along the way, or just relax on the warm sands of the beach with a drink in hand.

Water sports activities: Sports fishing, Snorkeling and many more
Hiking to the Park’s highest point “Nkungwe” (8,069ft) held sacred by the local ‘Tongwe’ tribe.
Local fishermen: Below the beaches of Lake Tanganyika are picturesque, and the local fishermen can be seen fishing as the sun sets on the Lake’s horizon.
The Chimpanzees: Tracking the chimps of Mahale is most certainly a magical and unique experience. It’s most notable as a chimpanzee sanctuary, and there are around 700 of our primate relatives split into 14 groups residing in and around the park.
There are leopards, blue duikers, red-tailed monkeys, red colobus (a favorite snack of chimps), giant pangolin and many Rift Valley bird species not found elsewhere in Tanzania.
Watch their hierarchy and social structure unfold before your eyes, noticing the uncanny resemblance to humans in many ways, including emotions shown and family structure.
