This wonderful 4-day road safari holiday can begin and end in Mombasa or Nairobi. Combine your relaxing beach holiday in Mombasa with a safari to experience the gorgeous nature and fantastic wildlife in two national parks: Tsavo West National Park and Amboseli National Park.
Your safari adventure departs Mombasa by road to Tsavo West National Park, situated west of its sister, Tsavo East National Park, and is approximately 188 km west of Mombasa (through Tsavo Gate near Manyani).
Tsavo West National Park is home to all the members of the “Big 5” African animals (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and rhinos). Other mammals include buffalo, hartebeest, lesser kudu, eland, waterbuck, Grant’s gazelle, impala, giraffe, steenbok, Kirk’s dik-dik, and klipspringer, all of which are also common.
There is also a host of Kenyan birds and other animals, both large and small, to see. Highlights of the birdlife include those of the semi-arid zone, such as ostrich and golden pipit, while perhaps the most conspicuous are the white-headed buffalo weaver and the brilliantly plumaged Golden-breasted Starling.
Tsavo West National Park activities include game drives, visiting hippo-inhabited pools of Mzima Spring, exploring the Shetani caves and lava flows, and visiting the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary.
On day two, we transfer by road to Amboseli National Park, located only 140 km from Tsavo West National Park. Spend two nights in Amboseli – renowned for its large herds of free-ranging African elephants.
Amboseli is world-famous among African safari destinations for its large mammal population. The swamps are a center of activity for elephants, hippos, buffalo, and abundant water birds.
The surrounding flat grasslands are home to grazing antelopes. Spotted hyenas are plentiful, as are jackals, warthogs, olive baboons, and vervet monkeys. No longer present in their original numbers, lions can still be found in Amboseli, though the famous black-maned lions have long since disappeared, as have the black rhinos that were once so plentiful.
Birdlife is abundant, especially in the vicinity of the lakes and swamps, where a great variety of water birds may be seen. Over 425 bird species have been recorded here, including over 40 species of birds of prey, amongst which are two great rarities, the Taita falcon and the southern banded harrier eagle.
On day 4, we drive to Mombasa or Nairobi, arriving late in the afternoon. Our Mombasa Safari Tsavo West Amboseli 4 Days 3 Nights Tour Safari ends upon arrival in Nairobi or Mombasa.
