5 Day Kenya Safari Samburu Lake Baringo Bogoria Nakuru

Take 4 days to experience this once-in-a-lifetime road wildlife journey to two of Kenya’s most incredible game parks – Aberdare National Park and Samburu National Reserve.

Enjoy full board accommodation, that’s all meals included, at well-selected safari lodges offering top-notch accommodation inside the scenic national parks and reserves.

The safari begins from Nairobi with a drive into the highlands of central Kenya to watch the wildlife of Aberdare National Park from a tree lodge overlooking an active, floodlit watering hole. Here we spend a night game viewing at a tree hotel within the Aberdare National Park or Mount Kenya National Park.

Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, The Ark is a unique tree lodge with a veranda that overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick allowing undisturbed views of wildlife visiting the waterhole. Watch the animals that frequently visit the lively waterhole beside the lodge, from a series of viewing decks and areas at different levels.

Spotting animals at the floodlit saltlick and watering hole into the night, with common visitors including elephants, buffalos, leopards, giant forest hogs, and Kenya’s indigenous endangered Black Rhino.

The other tree hotel is the Serena Mountain lodge located in the Mount Kenya National Park. Elephants, rhinos, leopards, bushbucks, and occasionally an elusive bongo and giant forest hog have been sighted.

After a night at the Tree Lodge, you proceed to the Samburu Game Reserve situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya.

This means plenty of water, trees, and shade to attract wildlife like elephants, lions, giraffes, and zebras from the surrounding savannah plains. Leopards are also regularly spotted.

The Reserve is not particularly well–known and is therefore not too crowded – a huge plus in Kenya where so many reserves are often overflowing with tourists.

It is often grouped with the Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves as they lie so close together. After a two-night stay in this great reserve, you return to Nairobi by road.

4 Day Aberdare National Park Samburu Game Park Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive to Aberdare National Park

0800 Hours: Our safari departs Nairobi after breakfast by road to the Aberdare National Park located 220 km.

The driving time is approximately 3½ hours. Our drive takes us through coffee and tea plantations to The Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill.

1200 Hours: Enjoy lunch at the Aberdare Country Club.

1430 Hours: Set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet.

This outstanding lodge offers high-altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: Giant forest hog, Bushpig, Tree Hyrax, large Spotted Genet, and the elusive Bongo Antelope.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels – and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy.

You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favourite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.

It was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness. Their story was made famous by the bestselling book and award-winning movie “Born Free”.

The game reserve is renowned for its rare species of animals unique to the park, namely: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa onyx.

The elusive Kenya leopard is often known to visit the park, especially in the evenings. Other Kenyan wildlife present in the park includes cheetahs and lions, as well as elephants, buffalo, and hippos.

Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at Samburu National Reserve, which boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches, and others.
